自然资源的开采和交易可以带来收入，实现发展和繁荣，并能够在社区和相关企业、合作社及个人之间形成互利关系。但在一些国家或地区，尤其是受冲突影响和高风险的地区，自然资源的开采和交易有可能加剧严重的暴力冲突和人权侵犯。例如，在某些国家钻石、木材、矿产等自然资源的开采和交易加剧了内战和暴力冲突。
Extracting and trading natural resources has the potential to generate income, growth and prosperity, and foster a mutually beneficial relationship between the communities and the companies, cooperatives and individuals. However, in some countries or regions, especially in conflict-affected and high-risk areas the extraction and trade of natural resources has fueled violent conflicts and serious human rights abuses. For example, in some countries, the exploitation and trade of natural resources such as diamonds, timber and minerals have exacerbated civil war and violent conflict.
电影《血钻》以塞拉利昂1999年的内战为背景，讲述了一位由莱昂纳多·迪卡普里奥饰演的前雇佣兵，在非洲从事钻石走私生意，与一位因为内战和家人分离，被叛军强制开采钻石的渔民，因为一颗极品粉钻，将彼此命运联系在了一起。该片获得奥斯卡金像奖以及美国金球奖在内的七项大奖的提名。
