Zhenfeng Xi received his B.Sc. degree from Xiamen University in 1983, M.Sc. from Nanjing University, Zhengzhou University and the Henan Institute of Chemistry in 1989 with Prof. Dou-Man Jin, and Ph.D. from the Institute for Molecular Sciences (IMS), Japan, in 1996 with Prof. Tamotsu Takahashi. He was an Assistant Professor at Hokkaido University, Japan, from 1997 to 1998. He joined the College of Chemistry at Peking University in 1998.

Prof. Xi served or is serving for several international journals as editors or advisory board members, including Associate Editor of Organic Letters (ACS).

Prof. Xi worked on Cooperative Effects of Lewis Acids with Transition Metals for Organic Synthesis, and Chemistry of Organo-di-metallic Reagents from 1998 to 2019. Currently he is focusing his research interest solely on direct transformation of N2 into N–C containing organic compounds.

Education:

1992 – 1995 Ph.D., Tohoku University (Prof. H. Ogino)

1990 – 1992 M.Sc., Tohoku University (Prof. H. Ogino)

1986 – 1990 B.Sc., Tohoku University

Professional Career:

2018 – present Professor, Tohoku University

2006 – 2018 Associate Professor, Tohoku University

2001 – 2006 Lecturer, Tohoku University (Prof. H.Tobita)

1997 – 2001 Research Associate; Tohoku University (Prof. M. Kira)

1996 – 1997 Frontier Researcher, RIKEN, Photodynamic Center (Prof. M. Kira)

1995 – 1996 Postdoctoral Research Associate, University of Notre Dame (Prof. T. P. Fehlner)

1992 – 1995 JSPS Research Fellow (D1) (Prof. H. Ogino)

Research Interests:

Organometallic chemistry, multiple bond chemistry, ubiquitous element catalysis, cluster chemistry.

We are interested in the synthesis, structure, and reactivity of multiple bonded complexes featuring

M≡Si/Ge triple bonds, chelate complexes with electropositive element-based ligands (Al, Si, Ge,

etc.), and main group-contained metal clusters, aiming at activation of small molecules and inert

bonds, performing homogeneous catalysis.
