Title: Postdoc in Chemical Biology and Protein/Antibody Engineering
Biological Sciences Division
Department of Radiation and Cellular Oncology
Faculty Sponsor: Jie Zhou, Ph.D. Assistant Professor
The Zhou Lab at the University of Chicago is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Postdoctoral Researcher with a strong interest in the development of targeted immunotherapies with chemical biology and protein/antibody engineering approaches. We work at the vibrant interface of chemistry and biology, with a specific focus on the complex dynamics of cell surfaces within the tumor microenvironment (TME). This interdisciplinary position presents an excellent opportunity for a Ph.D. graduate seeking to make significant contributions to the field of protein/antibody engineering & immunotherapy. This position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic, collaborative environment within the Departments of Radiation and Cellular Oncology and Chemistry at the University of Chicago. You'll work closely with Dr. Zhou, who has extensive experience and training in peptide chemistry, chemical biology, protein/antibody/cell engineering, and immunotherapy. The Zhou Lab is also part of the University of Chicago Comprehensive Cancer Center, offering additional opportunities for collaborative research and career development.

The successful candidate will be integral to our ongoing research projects, with a focus on:
-
Elucidating new chemical and biological phenomena or mechanisms on cell membranes contributing to pathological phenotypes.
-
Harnessing these insights to drive the development of next-generation immunotherapies.
-
Engineering small molecules and biologics to enhance our understanding of diseases and facilitate the creation of innovative therapeutics.
The potential candidate will employ a diverse range of methodologies/technologies, including synthetic chemistry, proteomics, functional genomics, and protein/antibody/cell engineering. They will also leverage combinatorial selection technologies such as phage/yeast/cell/virus display, coupled with next-generation sequencing (NGS) and bioinformatics, to advance biological research.
The selected individual is expected to proficiently manage multiple and competing projects and to maintain comprehensive and clear research notes. The successful candidate should be capable of presenting their research progress in internal group meetings and external scientific seminars to the broader scientific community within and outside the University of Chicago. We are seeking candidates who are highly independent, resourceful, and passionate about pioneering cancer immunotherapies.
A Ph.D. or educational equivalent required Ph.D. in chemistry, chemical biology or biochemistry are preferred. Organic chemistry background OR experience of molecular biology experiments, such as cloning, protein expression and purification, is appreciated. Knowledge of basic immunological concepts is appreciated. Experience in combinatorial selection technologies, next-generation sequencing (NGS), and bioinformatics is highly desirable. Ability to write and verbalize clear and complete research findings in the English language. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member.
