Head offices of Police authorities in Kathmandu are busy drafting plans to make the holiday season as safe as other times. In different press releases, both the Metropolitan Police Department and the Metropolitan Traffic Police Department, have come up with ways to tighten security to ensure safety and public well being.
The Metropolitan Traffic Police Division is to make the checks against drunk driving stringent during the festivals as Dashain, Tihar and Chhath
The MTPD is intensifying the checking as well as making it stern citing that many people tend to drive after taking liquor during the festivals which increases the chances of fatal road accidents.Likewise, the Division has made arrangements for carrying out special checking at the transit points of the Kathmandu Valley in a bid to stop various malpractices as the vehicles charging the passengers exorbitant fare, keeping people on board exceeding their capacity and issuing passenger ticket for single seat to two people.
Also, over 6,000 police personnel will be deployed inside Kathmandu Valley as part of the security arrangement for the upcoming festivals of Dashain, Tihar and Chhath.
The festival security plan will come into effect from Thursday. The Nepal Police will coordinate with the Armed Police Force while patrolling the areas identified as possible crime hotspots, marketplaces, highway checkpoints and places that have high mobility of people, said Senior Superintendent of Police Purna Chandra Joshi, spokesperson of the Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Commissioner’s Office (MPCO).
