In the first quarter of 2024, ITPO Beijing organized three delegations to visit regions in Africa and East Asia, aligning with the commitment to facilitate technology exchange and foster investment opportunities. This initiative underscores ITPO Beijing's proactive approach towards engaging with key partners and markets to support sustainable development and economic growth.From February 25th to March 2nd, ITPO Beijing organized a delegation's visit to Africa. The delegation comprised policy, knowledge, and business partners, as well as recipients of the "Global Call 2023" initiated by ITPO Beijing. The mission aimed to foster Sino-African cooperation, enhance investment quality, and promote sustainable industrial development. The delegation's visit to Kenya, jointly organized with the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) China Office, included participation in the sixth session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-6) and the United Nations Science-Policy-Business Forum on the Environment (UNSPBF). Additionally, ITPO Beijing and ITPO Nigeria jointly hosted a Business Matchmaking Meeting in Lagos and engaged in various meetings and site inspections within the city.KenyaDuring the visit to Kenya, ITPO Beijing and UNEP China Office arranged the delegation to attend the UNEA-6 opening ceremony, with the goal of contributing to sustainable environmental development, offering accessible and affordable solutions to the triple planetary crisis, and sharing Chinese insights and solutions in relevant domains. The delegation participated in the UNSPBF and engaged in discussions with Dr. Liu Jian, Director of the Early Warning and Assessment Division of the UN Environment Program, and Shereen Zorba, Head of the UNSPBF Secretariat. Furthermore, the delegation's visit to the Economic and Commercial Office of the Chinese Embassy in Kenya resulted in productive discussions with Minister Counselor Zhang Yijun, aiming to strengthen Sino-Kenyan cooperation, especially in agro-product processing and digital talent training.NigeriaIn Lagos, Nigeria, ITPO Beijing and ITPO Nigeria hosted the Business Matchmaking Meeting. Attendees included Yan Yuqing, the Consul General of China in Lagos; Wu Yabin, Head of ITPO Beijing; Abimbola Olufore, Head of ITPO Nigeria; and Wang Yingqi, Minister and Counselor for Economic and Commercial Affairs at the Embassy of China. The event facilitated interactions among nearly 20 representatives from both Nigerian and Chinese companies, focusing on exploring opportunities for cooperation. During the discussions, GIVO AFRICA, the Nigerian winner of the "Global Call 2023", shared their valuable experiences and outcomes from the competition.Furthering the engagement in Nigeria, ITPO Beijing made insightful visits to the Lekki Free Zone and Lekki Port to deepen understanding of local and Chinese business activities in the area. Conversations with the Lekki Free Zone Development Company highlighted the potential for development, emphasizing the ongoing efforts to boost Sino-Nigerian collaboration for reciprocal growth and development.From February 29th to March 5th, the ITPO Beijing Western China Regional Coordination Center (WRCC), along with Chengdu municipal government delegation, visited Republic of Korea (ROK) and Japan. The mission's purpose was to connect with local resources of these two nations to promote Chengdu's industrial development, meet with local partners, and hold two activities of expanding the overseas market in ROK and Japan.Republic of Korea (ROK)During the visit to ROK, the delegation visited ITPO Korea, engaging in discussions regarding Sino-ROK cooperation and the potential collaboration opportunities between Chengdu and ROK. The group also explored potential partnerships with the biggest Entrepreneurship Foundation in ROK and visited the Front 1 incubation space operated by D.Camp. Opening Chengdu Business Matching Conference (ROK) followed under the assistance of WRCC, facilitating close connections between key digital trade enterprises from Chengdu and over 20 Korean counterparts in animation, games, artificial intelligence, and digital content sectors. Additionally, the delegation highlighted Chengdu's investment advantages and those of Chengdu Hi-tech Zone, aiming to attract Korean enterprises to establish a presence in Chengdu. Moreover, meetings at the Economic and Commercial Counselor's Office of the Chinese Embassy in Korea and the Korea International Trade Association sparked discussions on enhancing Sino-ROK cooperation and bolstering economic exchanges between Chengdu and ROK.JapanIn Japan, the WRCC assisted the delegation with visiting ITPO Tokyo to discuss technical cooperation in China and Japan and the promotion of technical services overseas. The group also engaged with the Computer Entertainment Software Association (CESA) and inspected RED° Tokyo Tower, Japan's largest XR experience center, facilitating mutual exchanges. Moreover, the WRCC assisted the delegation Opening Chengdu Business Matching Conference (Japan), fostering discussions on collaborations between Chengdu's enterprises and over 20 Japanese firms in animation, games, cross-border e-commerce, artificial intelligence, and digital content production. Additionally, discussions were held with Song Yaoming, Minister of the Economic and Commercial Office of the Chinese embassy in Japan, aimed at broadening Sino-Japanese collaboration.From February 27th to March 11th, the ITPO Beijing Northern China Regional Coordination Center (NRCC) visited Egypt, Tanzania, and South Africa. Joined by Henan province officials and business leaders, the delegation conducted over 30 meetings and field visits, enhancing cooperation with more than a hundred African leaders and entrepreneurs across six cities. Discussions focused on investment, talent training, tech collaboration, and health, deepening Henan's ties with the African nations involved.
EgyptDuring the visit to Egypt, ITPO Beijing NRCC engaged with Mamdouh Moawad, Deputy Director of the National Research Centre (Egypt); Hazem El Ashmouny, Secretary General of the Cairo Governorate; Ali El-Hefny, Vice-Chairman of the Cairo-based Egyptian-Chinese Friendship Association; and representatives from the American University in Cairo. The discussions concentrated on vocational skills and talent development, with a strong emphasis on establishing joint research institutes, enhancing high-level talent training, and promoting technological collaboration. The aim was to share Egyptian research findings through Henan's platforms, encouraging mutual funding and talent cooperation for practical outcomes. Additionally, meetings with counselors Lu Chunsheng and Zhang Huasheng at the Chinese Embassy in Egypt explored further collaboration with the Egyptian government.TanzaniaIn Tanzania, ITPO Beijing NRCC engaged with Riganda, Manager of the Tanzania Investment Center, and Daniel Machunda, Mwanza Regional Administrative Secretary. These interactions provided insights into Tanzania's developmental strategies and potential areas for collaboration, focusing on key industries such as manufacturing, agriculture, livestock, and food processing, as well as the current state and aspirations in education, healthcare, and technology. The delegation also engaged with representatives from the University of Dar es Salaam and Dodoma University, exploring opportunities for cooperation in vocational training and educational initiatives. These engagements pointed to concrete areas for collaboration, particularly in enhancing Tanzania's industrial and agricultural capabilities and enriching its educational landscape.South AfricaDuring the visit to South Africa, the delegation engaged with Ineeleng Molete, Chief Operating Officer of the Local Government Sector Education and Training Authority (LGSETA), and visited both the University of Cape Town and the University of the Western Cape. During these meetings, they discussed deepening collaboration in talent training, medical support, technology transfer, and educational exchanges. Additionally, agreements were made to further enhance this cooperation through future visits and initiatives.Furthermore, ITPO Beijing NRCC conducted focused assessments in Durban to investigate prospective partnerships within the manufacturing, logistics, and technology domains. These endeavors aimed to establish cooperation projects between Henan province and KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. The delegation also engaged in discussions with Mr. Hlabisa, Member of Parliament of South Africa and President of the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), alongside local and Chinese business leaders, to promote investment and partnership opportunities.ITPO Beijing is dedicated to enhancing technology exchanges, promoting investment, advancing inclusive and sustainable industrial development (ISID), and fostering mutually beneficial partnerships. Through strategic overseas visits, ITPO Beijing has built a strong foundation for comprehensive industry collaboration, emphasizing effective communication to reinforce global cooperation. Looking ahead to 2024, ITPO Beijing stands ready to embark on further international missions, working closely with its extensive network of policy, knowledge, business, and industry stakeholders to drive international cooperation and facilitate technological exchange.
