每年的7月31日是黑色干杯日,历史上的这一天,⚓️英国皇家海军正式废除船员的每日朗姆酒配给制度。
Black Tot Day is commemorated on 31 July, the day ⚓️the Royal Navy abolished the daily rum ration given to sailors.
每一天的朗姆酒配给量通常称为“一杯(tot)”,指70ml的朗姆酒(通常会超标),也就是1/8品脱(英国),在正午时候分给船员。渐渐地,分发朗姆酒的过程变成了一种礼仪——“告昭众灵”(Up Spirits)仪式🔮。
The Daily Ration of Rum, known as the “tot”, consisted of 70 ml of rum (often overproof), 1/8th of an imperial pint, given out to sailors daily at midday.
该传统一直持续了300年,终于在1970年画上句号。在最后一场“告昭众灵”仪式上,水手们举行了一场假葬礼,他们集体佩戴黑色袖章,分发最后一次朗姆酒配给。这一天也就被称之为“黑色干杯日”。
After300 years, the Royal Naval tradition came to an end in 1970, at the last call of “Up Spirits!”🔮 Sailors wore black arm bands as they were given their last ration of rum and mock funerals took place. The day became know as Black Tot Day.

起初,分给船员用以鼓舞士气的酒其实不是朗姆酒,而是啤酒🍺,但因为啤酒在长时间的航行中很容易放坏,所以被朗姆酒取而代之,水手一开始也是干饮朗姆酒。
The ration was originally beer🍺, not rum, given to sailors to boost morale. Since beer spoilt easily during long voyages, it was substituted with rum, which was originally drunk neat.
直到1740年8月2日,一名因为总是穿一件土气的格罗格兰姆呢外套所以被称为“老格罗格”的海军军官爱德华.弗农(Edward Vernon)规定朗姆酒必须掺水稀释⚖️:每人每日的1/2品脱朗姆酒要加1夸脱的水,要想更美味可口,船员可以自行加糖或青柠(加青柠还可以预防坏血病)。久而久之,著名的格罗格酒(Grog)就成型了。
On August 21 1740, Vice Admiral Edward Vernon, known as “Old Grog” for the waterproof grogram cloak he wore, decreed that the ration be diluted with water⚖️, the daily allowance of half a pint a man is to be mixed with a quart of water and sailors could add sugar and lime to make the drink more palatable, the latter as a means of preventing scurvy. And the Grog was born.

纪念黑色干杯日——格罗格配方
Grog Recipe for Black Tot Day
原料📜:
60 ml 格罗夫黑朗姆酒
15 ml 赤砂糖糖浆(demerara sugar syrup)
15 ml 新鲜青柠汁
50 ml 水
杯型:岩杯或锡制马克杯
装饰:青柠瓣
Ingredients📜:
60 ml The Grove dark rum
15 ml demerara sugar syrup
15 ml fresh lime juice
50 ml water
Glassware: rocks glass or tin mug
Garnish: lime wedge
方法🥄:
制作赤砂糖糖浆,只需混合等份赤砂糖和开水,搅拌直至融化。用瓶装,可以保质几个月!
将所有原料倒至杯内,加冰,搅拌,用一片新鲜青柠瓣装饰。
Method🥄:
To make the demerara simple syrup, simply mix 1 part of demerera sugar with 1 part of boiling water, and mix until dissolved. Bottle – will keep for months!
Add all ingredients into glass. Top with ice. Stir, and garnish with a fresh lime wedge.
