Sometimes the penultimate experience is the one in your own home. So stock up – or ask your friends to bring a bottle of their favourite gin – and follow this simple guide for a fabulous gin party at home.
What You’ll Need For a Gin Party at Home
Gin Garnishes
Half the fun of making a G&T is the garnishing process. Be sure to have a wide variety on hand so that the drinks look and taste as pretty as possible. Set up, in an array of small bowls & glasses, a selection of garnishes for your guests to choose from and experiment with – don’t be afraid to include some unusual choices.
The simple rule is to select a flavour (botanical) in the gin that you’d like to enhance or contrast. So pick something that matches!
Our recommendations, as examples, would be as follows:
·The West Winds Sabre: Lemon Twist + Lemon Wedge
·The West Winds Cutlass: Capsicum or Lime Twist
·The West Winds Broadside: Pink Grapefruit (enhance) or Pickled cocktail onions (contrast)

Lots of Ice
It seems obvious but having ice – and lots of it – is essential to a party involving gin.
The bigger the ice cubes the better, as they will melt more slowly than smaller ones, therefore involving less dilution of your work of art in a glass.
Suitable Gin Glasses
The Copa or balloon glass is the staple gin glass for G&Ts but once the party is in full swing you may get the urge to experiment with some craft cocktails.
Therefore having a selection of glasses on hand for the variety of cocktails you can make is ideal. A basic selection would be the Highball, Copa, coupe/martini and flute glasses.
A Variety of Mixers
Different guests will have different tastes so it’s a good idea to have a wide range of mixers.
Tonic is the obvious mixer you’ll need. We recommend offering 2-3 choices of tonic. Try Capi Dry Tonic, Two Tall Brothers Classic Tonic, Fevertree Mediterranean Tonic & East Imperial Pink Grapefruit Tonic for a good selection.
Not everyone is a Tonic fan, so we’d also recommend having options such as Soda, Ginger Beer, Watermelon Juice (squeeze in a 20ml fresh lime/500ml of juice), and Iced Green Tea.
Gin Cocktail Recipes
Let’s start with the Gin & Tonic.
For the Classic G&T we recommend the ration of 1 part Gin to 3 parts of Tonic.
So, 50ml The West Winds Sabre + 150ml Tonic Water. Add ice. Stir lightly. Garnish!

Every gin party at home should feature a cocktail or two – especially as the night goes on. Here’s a classic to get you started:
The Southside
Light, refreshing and perfect at anytime of day or night.
Ingredients (Single Serve)
45ml The West Winds Sabre or Lawrenny Van Diemen’s Gin
30ml Fresh Lime Juice
10ml Sugar Syrup
8-10 mint leaves
Keep 1 mint leaf aside for Garnish
Method:
1. Add all ingredients to shaker
2. Shake hard
3. Fine Strain into coupe glass
4. Garnish with mint leaf
We Recommend multiplying this recipe by 3, and serving it as a pitcher.
