In recent years, Beijing has witnessed rapid development in its digital economy. On May 30, the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology released an action plan to promote the development of the city's digital economy industrial chain and further stimulate industry vitality.

Data from the bureau shows that in the first quarter of 2022, Beijing's digital economy added value reached 387.36 billion RMB, up 7.2% year-on-year, accounting for 41.2% of the city's GDP.

The plan outlines key measures to enhance digital technology supply capacity, focusing on breakthroughs in high-end chips, artificial intelligence, key software, blockchain, privacy computing, and urban space operating systems. It encourages domestic and international open-source projects and institutions to establish operations in Beijing, aiming to build a diversified innovation ecosystem supported by public platforms, foundational technologies, and leading enterprises.

To promote data openness and sharing, the plan will open data-sharing spaces in fields such as autonomous driving, digital healthcare, and digital finance to industry organizations or third-party institutions.

The action plan also includes targeted support for application scenarios across industries, including scientific research and knowledge production, industrial Internet, digital healthcare, and smart cities. It supports new R&D institutions in building shared platforms, promotes integration between blockchain and the industrial Internet, and encourages financial institutions to share business data via blockchain and privacy computing technologies.
