黄山脚下，有一处湖畔被群山围绕。身处徽州水墨山水间，走过竹林栈道，荡一叶扁舟到了湖中心你会看到，原来群山中、湖畔边还有一片美丽的徽派建筑。
At the foot of Huangshan Mountain, there is a lake surrounded by mountains. In the picturesque landscape of Huizhou , going through the bamboos road and then floating in a boat to the center of the lake you will see buildings of Huizhou style on the bank.
卢强是清华大学建筑系毕业博士，一直在北京生活。21年前，他跟随导师单德启教授去黄山学习古建筑、民居和村落的研究，初次见面，他便不可自拔地爱上了这个地方，徽派的古建筑、田园风光、自然风景和民土风情都深深地吸引着他。
Lu Jiang has a docote’s degree of architecture who was graduated from Tsinghua University and he has always been living in Beijing. 21 years ago, he followed professor Shan Deqi to Huangshan to study the ancient architectures, folk dwellings, and village communities and he fell in love with that place for the first sight. The Hui-style ancient buildings, the natural scenery and the folk cultures are deeply attracting him.
从黄山回到北京，卢强看着北京遍地的高楼大厦，不免情绪低落，这不是他喜欢的生活。于是，回忆记忆里的黄山风光成为他最快乐的事情。他喜欢木门推开的嘎吱一声，喜欢住在百年历史的宅子里，还喜欢早晨醒来，从古井里打上一桶清凉的水用来洗漱……
When he was on the way back to Beijing, seeing all those modern buildings here and there he felt depressed for his instinct knows this life doesn’t belong to him. So he started looking back to the beautiful scenery and landscapes of Huangshan Mountain in his memory, which had been the best thing in life. He likes to hear the creak when opening the wooden door, he is fond of living in the old house with hundreds of years’ history, and he enjoys getting a bucket of cool water from the old well in the morning after waking up for refreshment......
2004，卢强再一次回到了黄山，这一次，他没有打算再回北京。他要在黄山脚下，用现代建筑学的知识，复苏古典的村落民居之美，更重要的是，他想要创造一个让人心安的归处。
In 2004, Lu Qiang went back to Huangshan again, and he didn’t mean to be back. He wanted to call back the beauty of the folk dwellings using his knowledge of modern architectures at the foot of Huangshan Mountain. What’s more, he attempted to create a destination for people to settle down their hearts and souls.
坐落在丰乐湖畔的“德懋堂”便是卢强的心爱之处。这是一座徽州的老房子，曾经，这里厅堂上悬挂的匾额是李鸿章所题，这家人的富贵显赫可见一斑。尤其是德懋二字，充分体现了古代徽州人对道德修养的重视，和崇尚勤勉、追求丰茂的美好理想。
Demao Hall is an old house of Huizhou, and it’s one of Lu Qiang’s favorite places which is located on the bank of Fengle Lake. In the past, there was a plaque hanging in the hall that was written by Li Hongzhang, which we can tell how wealthy and powerful this family was. The two characters “De” and “Mao” have fully represented that the ancient people of Huizhou had put great value on the cultivation of morality, diligence, and glories.
卢强说：“读书的时候，单德启老先生就讲过，好的建筑就像是自然而然从土里长出来的，更重要的是器以载道。”因此，改建过的德懋堂，仍是徽州老宅传统的样子，青石门、马头墙还有传统的手工徽雕木梁。
Lu Qiang said: "when I was a student professor Shan Deqi had said that the good architectures were naturally growing from the soils and delivering ethics.” Therefore, the reconstructed Demao Hall keeps the traditional styles using the elements of engraved-stone doors, wharf walls and the traditional han-engraved beams of Huizhou.
在古代，德懋堂是富贵人家的居住场所。在今天，卢强通过自己的努力让懋堂变为一种生活方式，成为和这一片美丽的山水共生的建筑。让徽州古建筑可以以一种更好的方式存在下去，而我们，可以在这里静静感受半山半水半田园，半耕半读半经廛的自然生活。
In ancient times, Demao Hall was a place for the rich. However, Lu Qiang has make it a lifestyle combining with the beautiful nature. In this way, the ancient architectures can get a better way of living and we can enjoy the quiet nature and simple life as well.
