Trust, respect, and identifying common interests begin with face-to-face dialogue.
On November 28, 2025, the Chinese Ambassador to Austria, H.E. Qi Mei, together with a business delegation from the Association of Chinese Enterprises in Austria (VCUOE), paid an official visit to Austria’s province of Styria (German: Steiermark).
- A site visit and meeting with MAGNA, a key automotive partner in the region
- A high-level meeting between the Ambassador and Gerald Deutschmann, President of the provincial parliament
- A roundtable between companies and organizations from Styria and China, organized by the Internationalisation Center of Styria (ICS) and hosted by National Council member Ernst Gödl
China is Styria’s second most important trading partner. Many Styrian companies have established a strong presence in China, leveraging their engineering and manufacturing expertise. At the same time, Chinese companies such as Xpeng and GAC have found excellent partners in Graz—most notably with MAGNA—and others are exploring closer cooperation and investment opportunities in the region.
Styria stands out for innovation and R&D leadership, a strong, internationally oriented industrial base, a highly skilled workforce, and—last but not least—its reputation as the “Green Heart of Austria”, a beautiful and comfortable place to live and work.
