Job Introduction

We are looking for an IoT Engineer to join our team in Shanghai. You will cover the technological side of our experimental projects, interactive applications and digital products used to engage customers in showrooms or events.

Job Responsibilities

As an IoT Engineer, you will be covering the technological side of our customer experience projects, mostly building interactive brand experiences for retail or event scenarios. The following areas are part of your responsibilities:

01. Consulting / Conceptualizing

Based on an initial concept to provide a professional technical solution, including its benefits, risks, and other implications, or, to create initial concepts for customer experience based on technologies. It also includes the planning of a project scenario, and the selection of equipment parts and suppliers to ensure quality delivery within the project.

02. Prototyping

Build prototypes (from simple to advanced) to enable the project stakeholders to simulate the experience, and to test other factors such as technical stability, safety, user logic or design aspects.

03. Implementation

Plan and execute technical solutions, in close collaboration with other internal and external project stakeholders, and in time and budget, and with the expected quality levels. During implementation it is expected to keep development work in-house if there is capacity and capability inside the company, and to outsource the remaining work. Decisions about outsourcing are made together with the project manager.

04. Managing

In case implementation work is assigned to other team members, or external suppliers/freelancers, it is your responsibility to ensure those project members are properly briefed, have all resources they need, and are performing their work as planned. A proper quality assurance is expected and should be reported.

05. Installation & Setup

Many interactive experiences are integrated into furniture or spaces, and therefore are often built and tested at factory sites and installed at locations of the customer. It is necessary to plan and monitor the supply, logistics and the correct implementation process, together with the project management and the technical support staff. Where needed, travel is required.

06. Service Support Communication

It is important to have close communication with the onsite staff that is supporting the performance and uptime of the interactive experiences at their respective location. This goes from instruction and training, as well as support and help in case of issues, and if equipment parts are malfunctioning.

07. Documentation, Archiving & Reporting

It is expected to have a clean and structured documentation of your work, that includes technical drawings & plans, equipment lists, supplier agreements, project plans and issue reports. This documentation needs to be available on our file server or a cloud platform with team member access to ensure handover or status checks done at any time by anyone.

Required Skills

Software Skills

• Proficient in any one coding language: C++, C# or Javascript for building prototypes and testing ideas

• Able to read other people' code and understand relevant documentation for software related projects

• Able to work on different machines: Mac, Windows and Linux

• Some experience with 3D programs like Blender, Unity/Unreal to build AR/VR apps

  
  

Hardware Skills

• Experience with physical computing, Arduino, Raspberry PI, ESP32 and IOT projects. Ideally a hobbyist hacker for analog devices

• Able to debug problems on the hardware and software side of things 

• Ability to make quick proof of concepts for testing ideas

• Have some experience with tools like RFID, DMX, Art-net devices and sensors for interactive installations
