Puerto de Manzanillo has handled approximately 40% of Mexico’s container import and export traffic, solidifying its position as the primary node of the country’s foreign trade. Its recent performance is closely linked to trans-Pacific trade, particularly the import of goods from Asia, as well as its proximity to Mexico’s major industrial, consumption, and distribution centers.

曼萨尼约集装箱码头公司(Contecon Manzanillo)总经理何塞・安东尼奥・孔特雷拉斯(José Antonio Contreras)表示,该港口近年来的增长是物流与地理因素共同作用的结果。他解释道,过去四年间,自亚洲(尤其是中国)的进口量累计增幅超 70%。“这一增长势头极为强劲,一方面因为曼萨尼约港是亚洲海运航线抵达墨西哥的首个港口,另一方面得益于其与国内主要生产制造中心和消费市场的近距离优势。”

According to José Antonio Contreras, General Director of Contecon Manzanillo, the growth observed in recent years is a combination of logistical and geographical factors. The executive explained that imports from Asia, particularly China, have seen a cumulative increase of over 70% in the past four years. “This is extremely high growth, driven by the fact that Manzanillo is the first port touched by maritime services coming from Asia and its proximity to major manufacturing and consumption centers.”

2025 年,该港口的吞吐量呈现出不同以往的态势。孔特雷拉斯指出,受经济放缓及关税政策不确定性影响,曼萨尼约港陷入吞吐量停滞。

In 2025, the volume performance showed a distinct scenario. Contreras noted that the port faced a stagnation process, aligned with economic slowdown and tariff uncertainty.

“This year we are seeing stagnation in volumes, something that not only affects Manzanillo but all of the country’s import and export ports.”

Nevertheless, the port maintained its strategic role in the Mexican economy by handling a significant portion of inputs destined for both the retail sector and the national production industry.

Industrial Sectors Linked to the Port

Cargo movement at Manzanillo is directly related to key industrial sectors. Among the main users are large retail chains, the automotive industry, white goods manufacturers, and manufacturing companies located in various regions of the country.

“The automotive industry is a major user of the port, as are manufacturing and retail,” the executive stated.

In this context, Contecon Manzanillo has positioned itself as the terminal with the highest operational volume within the port and nationwide, despite having started operations in 2013.
