Hou Mingjuan
global vice president of Qualcomm
Q: Can you tell us what technological highlights Qualcomm will have at this year's CIFTIS?
Hou: Qualcomm is planning to participate in this year's CIFTIS. Generally speaking, first of all, Qualcomm will bring more customers' products to the exhibition stand, rather than just Qualcomm's own devices or products. We hope to demonstrate Qualcomm's advanced technologies through our customers' products.
In addition, we will consider some new hot spots and trends that have emerged across the industry this year. For example, 5G has ushered in the fourth year of its commercial application, and many new applications have emerged. We strive to make the exhibitions and displays more immersive and interactive, so that the audience will be able to feel Qualcomm's technologies and new applications personally at the Qualcomm exhibition stand, such as AI, IoT, and VR.
Q: Qualcomm has been operating in China for more than 20 years. How do you feel about the business environment in China?
Hou: One thing that I feel deeply is that my colleagues at Qualcomm headquarters are particularly willing to listen to stories from China. We have a lot of customers in China, and we tell stories about interactions with industrial chain partners from China. These vivid examples are particularly fascinating. For example, Qualcomm inked deals on technical cooperation concerning table tennis robot project with Shanghai University of Sport. Given this, the table tennis robots can be designed based on each young player's characteristics such as age, serving and receiving direction and intensity. Many similar cases make us feel that the Chinese market and industry are full of vitality and opportunities. I am very excited to really reach out to our customers to discover these stories, because they are very creative. This also made us realize that there is always room for improvement as a team.
Q: As a global leading multinational, Qualcomm has participated in the CIFTIS for three consecutive years. How do you see the role of the CIFTIS platform?
Hou: The core message the CIFTIS has delivered includes industrial chain cooperation, global cooperation, openness and win-win. This accords well with Qualcomm's philosophy - Invent, Share and Collaborate. Our IC products are less likely to be found directly at the Qualcomm exhibition stand, and that's because our technology must be implemented via our customers' products. As a B2B company, what should Qualcomm do to tell the story of deep cooperation with its partners and present the invisible and intangible technology to the public? The answer is to present its partners' products. At the CIFTIS platform, Qualcomm has continued to demonstrate the innovative achievements it has made together with its Chinese partners, conveying our determination to achieve win-win cooperation and shared mutual benefits through sharing technology R&D outcomes and enabling our partners to innovate.
