The 2024 CIFTIS Hainan province promotion roadshow event was successfully held at Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center on April 14. The event was attended by more than 120 people, including Yu Xiang, deputy director-general of the Department of Commerce of Hainan Province, Chi Fulin, president of China Institute for Reform and Development (CIRD), Zhou Ling, deputy director-general of Beijing International Trade in Services Center, Gu Wenzhong, director of Exhibition and Training Department at China International Center for Economic and Technical Exchanges, Tian Yuan, deputy director-general of Hainan Provincial Development and Reform Commission, Zhao Yuedong, deputy director-general of Hainan Communications Administration, Zhu Chunxia, second-class inspector (deputy director-general level) of Beijing Communications Administration, delegates from Hainan Provincical Department of Industry and Information Technology, Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology, World Trade Center Haikou, and other organizations, business associations and enterprises, as well as media representatives from Xinhua News Agency, International Business Daily, among others.

Yu Xiang, deputy director-general of the Department of Commerce of Hainan Province, addressed the event, stating that Hainan, bridging Chinese mainland and Southeast Asia, the two most active markets in the world, is an important intersection of domestic and international market. General Secretary Xi Jinping has personally participated in the decision, planning, and promotion of the establishment of Hainan Free Trade Port, a major reform and opening-up initiative. During his inspection tour to Hainan Province on April 13, 2022, General Secretary Xi proposed that "Hainan should elevate its modern services industry to international standards and make great efforts in optimizing its industrial structure. It should focus its efforts on the development of modern services like tourism, Internet, medical care, finance, and conventions & exhibitions, and accelerate the innovative development of trade in services, to promote the optimization and upgrading of its services sector and shape an industrial system in which services economy plays a leading role." Moving forward, Hainan will speed up the exploration of effective ways to help the free trade port serve and integrate into the new development paradigm, while opening its arms wider to embrace the future. Hainan Province has been actively participating in previous CIFTIS sessions and will serve as the guest province of honor for the 2024 CIFTIS, to push more Hainan-based enterprises to share business opportunities and promote development together via the CIFTIS platform.

Zhou Ling, deputy director-general of Beijing International Trade in Services Center, addressed the event, extending her heartfelt congratulations to Hainan province on serving as the guest province of honor for the 2024 CIFTIS. The province will also introduce its policies related to the establishment of Hainan Free Trade Port and the latest projects and achievements of service trade enterprises at the fair. In 2024, CIFTIS will fully implement China's major national strategies such as promoting high-quality development and high-level opening-up, and further bolster its role as a crucial platform for China to expand opening-up, deepen cooperation and pioneer innovation. By doing so, it will better serve and integrate into the new development paradigm, thereby helping to build an open world economy. The fair is expected to make greater contributions to China's development of new quality productive forces, deep involvement in the global industrial division of labor and cooperation, and building of a great country on all fronts through a Chinese path to modernization. Focusing on the hot trends of service trade development, 2024 CIFTIS will comprise nine thematic exhibitions on telecommunications, computer and information services, financial services, culture and tourism services, education services, sports services, supply chain and business services, engineering consulting and construction services, health services, and environmental services. The fair will underscore its international, specialized, and market-oriented aspects, with a greater emphasis on its transactional functions. It will continue to establish the trade delegations of central SOEs, state-owned financial enterprises, and Chinese provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities, and will also deepen the role of exhibitors' federations. This year's CIFTIS will invite a vast array of foreign countries and international organizations to host exhibitions and conferences. Moreover, it will strengthen efforts to invite professional visitors to the site for procurement through multiple channels, organize overseas country/region-specific events, and provide accurate services such as supply and demand matching, trade matching, business talks and signing events, offering exhibitors and attendees an abundance of cooperation opportunities.

Zhu Chunxia, second-class inspector of Beijing Communications Administration, outlined in her address the distinct features of the information and communications sector and the development of the sector in Beijing. She affirmed that as the governing body of the information and communication industry in Beijing, the Beijing Communications Administration will continue to partner with the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology to coordinate the organization of the CIFTIS Thematic Exhibition on Telecommunications, Computer & Information Services (ICT Exhibition). Themed "Technology Drives Digital Trade Innovation", the 2024 ICT Exhibition will continue to feature areas around telecommunications services, digital technology, artificial intelligence, integrated circuits, industrial Internet, specialized and new "little giant" enterprises, and cutting-edge international technologies, among others. Meanwhile, it will spotlight the coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region, intelligent manufacturing, innovative commercial cryptography technology, emergency management and disaster relief, and other trending applications in the industry. Furthermore, it will keep pace with the latest trends in the next-generation Internet and consumer electronics industries, characterized by universal large language model, digital human, and virtual reality (VR), and continue to showcase cutting-edge scientific and technological achievements like computing power services, AI-generated content (AIGC), intelligent connectivity, and automatic driving.

The ICT Exhibition of the 2024 CIFTIS will feature areas respectively for telecommunications services, digital technology, smart life, innovative cryptography technology and its application, intelligent manufacturing, and a special exhibition, as well as one cutting-edge metaverse technology innovation and application experience center, displaying new technologies and experiences within the digital economy industry.

To this end, it will further pool related resources, expand its scale, and attract more international participants, thus realizing its upgrading.

Chi Fulin, president of China Institute for Reform and Development (CIRD), delivered a keynote speech at the event. He pinpointed that service trade is an important indicator of high-quality trade development, and is also the key to China's endeavors of steering the industrial chain and value chain toward the medium- and high-end and strengthening its voice in global economic and trade rules. As China's economic structural transformation is at a critical moment, there is a marked increase in the demand for trade in services. Therefore, we should follow the development trend, form a new pattern for opening-up with an emphasis on trade in services, and establish a new system for high-standard open economy that meets the needs of service trade. Chi also proposed a number suggestions, considering the role of CIFTIS as a platform for exchanges and cooperation in global trade in services as well as the development of the Hainan Free Trade Port.

He stressed that the bank will fully assist in the preparations for the 2024 CIFTIS and continue to provide support in areas such as investment and exhibition promotion, key activities, business connections, and financial services. Representatives from participating enterprises like ZXCHUHAI and Haikou Office of Beijing Tiantai Law Firm shared their experiences and insights gained from the previous sessions of the CIFTIS, and expressed a keen interest to continue their participation in the upcoming 2024 edition.
