On the morning of March 5, 2025, the much-anticipated third session of the 14th National People's Congress opened at the Great Hall of the People. Premier Li Qiang delivered a report on the work of the government. The report pointed out that "We will host major trade events to high standards, such as the China International Import Expo, the China Import and Export Fair, the China International Fair for Trade in Services, the Global Digital Trade Expo, and the China International Consumer Products Expo". As a crucial platform for China to expand opening-up, deepen cooperation and pioneer innovation, the CIFTIS has been included in the government work report every year since 2021, fully demonstrating the Chinese government's high attention to the development of the services industry and services trade.
Having been successfully held for 11 sessions, the CIFTIS has attracted nearly 1,190,000 participants from 198 countries and regions, making positive contributions to the building of an open world economy and the development of global services industry and services trade. The fair covers 12 sectors of trade in services, with a focus on nine sections: Telecommunications, Computer & Information Services (ICT services), Financial Services, Culture & Tourism Services, Education Services, Sports Services, Supply Chain and Business Services, Engineering Consulting & Construction Services, Health Services, and Environmental Services. It features a range of activities, including the Global Trade in Services Summit, exhibitions and displays, forums and conferences, promotional business talks, achievements release, and supporting events.
The 2025 CIFTIS, scheduled to take place in Beijing this September, will be further upgraded to establish itself as the most influential comprehensive exhibition with a global reach in the field of trade in services. The focus will be on improving the standards of its specialization, market-driven development, and global integration. Plans have been in place to enhance the fair in seven aspects, namely exhibitions and displays; forums, conferences, and supporting events; trade facilitation; domestic and international promotion; market-driven development; service support; and working mechanisms. Efforts will center on developing the Shougang Park into a distinctive exhibition town, fostering a more relaxing and convenient environment for negotiation and communication. Additionally, the fair will offer supporting services related to performances, events, tourism, etc. With all these enhancements and offerings, the CIFTIS is in a position to present itself as a fair that keeps up with the times and showcases cutting-edge innovations in the field of trade in services.
