Addressing a recent meeting held by the State Council Information Office, P.R.C. to promote the high-quality development of civil affairs, Minister of Civil Affairs Tang Dengjie said that the work system concerning senior citizens has been improved through the institutional reform of the Party and the government this year to transfer the responsibilities for organizing, formulating, coordinating and implementing policies and measures about the aging of population to the Ministry of Civil Affairs. The Ministry of Civil Affairs has implemented tasks of the institutional reform and promoted senior care undertakings and services in three main areas to find a solution for aging population, which is in line with China's actual conditions and characteristics.

The 2023 China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS) took place in Beijing from September 2 to September 6. During the Fair, the 2023 China International Forum on Medical and Health Sector Development and Investment was held at China National Convention Center. During the forum, which centered on the theme of "Exploration and Practice of New Senior Care System in the New Era", the development path of China's medical and health sector was discussed to seek the Chinese solution in the age of aging.
As a large international trade facility and integrated service network in the world, World Trade Centers Association (WTCA) owns more than 320 world trade centers in nearly 100 countries and provides services for millions of industrial and commercial companies as its members and customers, said Wang Xun, vice president of WTCA. In adherence to the principle of mutual benefit and assistance, all the world trade centers exchange and interact with each other on the common global platform to share resources, experience, information and services. To meet the challenges of aging through cooperation across society, the global network of WTCA can leverage the advantage in connecting businesses with communities to help China strengthen mechanisms that support senior care and health, provide better senior care and medical services, improve the quality of life of senior citizens, and promote sustainable social and economic development.
In his speech, Zhou Liang, Party secretary and chief editor of Economic Information Daily, said that the advent of the age of aging has brought new challenges and opportunities to us. We should develop the silver economy, introduce technologies, products and services suitable for senior citizens and cultivate new business forms such as smart senior care.
Greater policy support and better management should be applied to relevant systems and mechanisms, said Zhou Liang. We should not only advance the reform of public senior care institutions to improve the capability and level of services, but also encourage and support the development of private senior care institutions in line with local conditions to explore the path of health and senior care that conforms to Chinese characteristics. We should support social forces to build professional and large-scale senior care institutions with an outstanding ability to integrate medical services and senior care. We should also support commercial insurance companies to develop commercial pension insurance products and health insurance products suitable for senior citizens. This will guide all members of society to establish a concept of insurance across the lifecycle.
