An on-line signing ceremony was held simultaneously in Beijing, Wuhan and the United Arab Emirates on July 23, marking the largest Chinese order of freight train awarded abroad. In this case, CRRC Changjiang Group has successfully secured a $350-million order for the second phase of the UAE railway project.
The 1,200km UAE railway is an important part of the Gulf Rail Network. CRRC is now the largest supplier of rail transit equipment over the world. According to the order just awarded, Wuhan CRRC Changjiang Group is going to supply more than 1,600 freight trains and long-term maintenance services for the operation of the second phase of the UAE railway project under construction.
Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Nahyan, chairman of the board of The UAE Railway Corporation, addressed, "The contracted railway vehicles are manufactured to our specific requirements, including many of the up-to-date technologies, manufacturing and services.
The UAE railway project is planned to be divided into three phases, the first phase of which was completed in 2011. The operating vehicles were all provided by CRRC Changjiang Group, which will be used for the transport of materials in the mines and ports. After the completion of the second phase of the project, the railway network will provide railway logistics and transportation equipment support for connecting the regional trade center, industrial center, manufacturing center and production logistics center.
