Description
Seeking expressions of interest in a Postdoctoral Associate position in Professor Stadler's Computational and Applied Mathematics group at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences.
Research topics of interest include PDE-constrained optimization under uncertainty, Bayesian inference, large-scale PDE solvers and scientific ML. Two positions in collaboration with application scientists are available:
1) A position as part of a multi-institutional collaboration on the mathematics sea-ice and data assimilation. See here for the collaboration website: https://seaicemuri.org/
2) A position on optimization of magnetic fields for fusion in a multi-institutional collaboration. See here for the collaboration website: https://hiddensymmetries.princeton.edu/ There is also the possibility to collaborate with a fusion startup.
Applicants should indicate which project they are most interested in. The start date is flexible and the initial appointment will be for one year with the possibility of extensions depending on performance and funding.
Qualifications
Candidates should have a PhD degree and past work in applied and computational mathematics, and be familiar with at least two of the following: PDE-constrained Optimization; Optimization under uncertainty; Numerical methods for PDEs; Scientific computing with Python and C/C++; Bayesian inference; Fusion; Sea ice modeling. Candidate should also have an interest in science and engineering applications.
Salary
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $58,500 - $90,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.
