About the position
We are seeking to appoint a candidate with an excellent research record to a permanent Lectureship in the Mathematics of Environmental Data Science (equivalent to North American assistant professorship). Applications are welcome from candidates working in any area of mathematics for environmental data science, including data assimilation and deep learning. The post is a joint position between the Department of Mathematics and Statistics and the Department of Meteorology at the University of Reading. It is a full-time position, but flexible working arrangements can be considered.
You will have:
•A PhD in Mathematics or in a quantitative science, or equivalent research experience;
•An excellent track record of research in an area related to the mathematics of environmental data science, evidenced by publications of international standing;
•Ability to teach across a range of modules and levels in mathematics;
•Dedication to high-quality teaching and learning.
Salary
£45,585 - £56,021 per annum

Topic:
The research topics will be chosen from combinatorial optimization and/or algorithmic game theory, depending on the candidate's background, experience and interest. One potential topic for a PhD student are flows over time from an optimization as well as a game-theoretical perspective. Moreover, there is the opportunity to apply combinatorial optimization to applied projects in chip design or routing.
We offer:
Bonn offers excellent opportunities for both industrial collaborations and theoretical research in discrete mathematics, particularly in approximation algorithms and algorithmic game theory. The presence of the Hausdorff Center, which organizes various workshops and trimester programs, is a major advantage. The PostDoc position is a one year position with the possibility of extending it for another year. The PhD position is for a duration of three years. The teaching requirement of both positions is very low.

About the position
One postdoc position (with an initial contract of one year and a possibility of extension for another year, subject to performance) is available in a project related to clustering algorithms over various metric spaces in the research group of *Diptarka Chakraborty* (https://sites.google.com/view/diptarka/) at National University of Singapore.
Applications are invited from candidates who have a solid background
in algorithm design, computational complexity, and mathematics and have completed their Ph.D. degree in theoretical computer science or mathematics within the last 3 years (or will complete by Fall '23). About the position
The Algorithms and Complexity Group of IDSIA, USI-SUPSI, Lugano (Switzerland), opens 2 PostDoc positions.
These positions are supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation project "Approximation Algorithms for Resource Scheduling" (November 2021-October 2025) The main goal of this project is to design improved approximation algorithms for a wide family of applications. Besides the classical (offline, centralized) setting, the group is also interested in algorithms for distributed, dynamic and online settings.
The PostDoc positions are initially for 1 year, but an extension by 1 extra year is expected. The project supports 2 PostDoc positions per year on average. The gross salary is around 80.000 CHF per year, with low taxes. There are no teaching duties and there is generous travel support. Candidates should hold (or be close to obtaining) a Ph.D. in Computer Science or related areas, and should have a solid publication record in the area of TCS (with a preference for approximation algorithms). Top conferences in this area include STOC, FOCS, SODA, and ICALP.

A Post-Doc position with teaching obligations (in German!) is open at the research group Algorithms and Complexity Theory at TU Berlin, Germany.
Our group (https://www.tu.berlin/akt) at TU Berlin is offering a
Post-Doc position (German salary group 13 TV-L, full-time), starting as soon as possible, until the end of September 2024 (~14 months).
Your tasks include:
- participation in teaching and supervision of bachelor/master theses
- collaboration in our research projects (parameterized algorithms,
algorithmic bioinformatics) and presentation of results in our seminar
- innovative research and publication at relevant conferences and journals
The position involves a teaching obligation of 3 full hours per week +
preparations. Teaching languages are both German and English.
Recruitment requirements
- PhD in computer science or discrete mathematics with emphasis on
algorithms or theoretical computer science
- profound knowledge in the field of theoretical computer science
(experience with parameterized algorithms would be a plus) and discrete mathematics
- experience in academic teaching, including BA/MA theses supervision is an advantage
- good written and spoken English and German knowledge
