学界招聘|南安普顿大学招募研究员（机器学习的数学优化方向）

Applications are invited for a Research Fellow in Mathematical Optimization for Machine Learning, based at the University of Southampton. The post is a key part of a new research project funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).

This project is part of an initiative between the University of Southampton and University College London, with IBM UK as industrial partner, to bring together bilevel optimization and machine learning experts to explore the most tractable ideas to build optimization theory and numerical schemes to address timely problems at the intersection of bilevel optimization and machine learning. The aim of this project, as the first step of this collaboration framework, is to review the literature to build a picture of the potential of bilevel optimization in machine learning. This work will therefore set the foundation of this initiative with the development of basic theoretical and numerical results for a better understanding of the structure of such problems.

This full time 1 year position, with a possibility of extension provided further funding is secured, offers opportunities to collaborate with and visit the project partners, and take part in key international conferences in optimization and machine learning. Limited relocation costs can also be covered. The successful applicant must have a PhD* or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in Operations Research, Mathematical Optimization, Machine Learning, Computer Science, Statistics, or any related area, the ability to pursue research independently and as part of a team, and a track record of high quality original research. Expertise in theoretical and numerical optimization would be advantageous.

The Research Fellow will be affiliated to the Operational Research Group (one of the four research groups of the School of Mathematical Sciences at Southampton; further information can be found at http://www.southampton.ac.uk/maths) and the Centre for Operational Research, Management Science and Information Systems (CORMSIS). CORMSIS is one of the largest and strongest groups of OR/MS/IS researchers in Europe. Its Statistics and Operational Research ranks among the top 40 in the world and among the top 10 in the UK (QS subject rank 2020). The centre has many contacts with industry as well an extensive academic network, and has a strong track record of top quality published research work.

*Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD.  Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.

£34,314 to £37,386 Per annum
