The Department of Management at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC) invites applications for a full-time tenure stream position in the area of Operations Management and Analytics. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an expected start date of July 1, 2024, or shortly thereafter.

In addition, the University of Toronto Scarborough is implementing its Strategic Plan: Inspiring Inclusive Excellence. Candidates must have earned a PhD degree in Operations Management, Operations Research, Analytics, or a closely related field by the time of appointment, or shortly thereafter, with a demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching. Candidates’ academic concentration and research programs should be in areas directly related to Operations Management, Operations Research, or Analytics. Candidates must also have a demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level. We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and enhance our existing departmental strengths. Candidates who can contribute to the areas of strength of the current Operations Management and Analytics group at UTSC such as Discrete Optimization and rigorous algorithmic analysis of Operations Management problems are particularly welcome to apply, but strong candidates in all areas of Operations Management, Operations Research, and Analytics will be considered. The successful candidate will be expected to pursue innovative and independent research, and to establish an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program.

Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence which can be demonstrated by a record of publications in top-ranked and field-relevant journals or forthcoming publications meeting high international standards, the submitted research statement, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, and strong endorsements from referees of high standing in the candidate’s field. Evidence of excellence in teaching will be provided through teaching accomplishments, a teaching dossier (with required materials outlined below) submitted as part of the application, as well as strong letters of reference.

We are looking for optimisation modelling consultants to strengthen our team. As a new DTM team member you:

• have a drive to solve challenging, practical problems related to sustainability using advanced analytical methods

• have a master or PhD degree in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Econometrics or in a related field with an Operations Research specialisation

• have at least 3 years of work or research experience

• are experienced in creating and solving LP/MIP models using solvers like SCIP, CPLEX and Gurobi

• know how to write easy-to-maintain code in Python, R or Julia and know your way in the open source community

• have a pro-active and supportive attitude

• will help to grow a start-up with a dedication to support organisations in attaining their sustainability goals

• are comfortable with speaking and writing in English

University Assistant (must hold a Doctorate/Ph.D. degree) for a Full-time, six-year position

The position will be located at the Institute for Business Analytics and Technology Transformation.

Job Duties:

• Conduct original research within the research areas of the institute and publish the respective findings in high-ranking journals

• Presentation of research results at international conferences

• Teaching of two courses per semester and willingness to co-supervise master and bachelor theses

• Participation in administrative activities of the institute

• Collaboration in the application and implementation of research projects of the institute

• The successful candidate must hold a Doctorate/Ph.D. degree in social and economic sciences with quantitative orientation, mathematics, (business) informatics, statistics, operations research, machine learning, or equivalent qualification.

• Experience in modeling and implementing algorithms to solve optimization problems (mixed integer programming/machine learning, etc.)

• Strong motivation and demonstrated interest in business analytics issues

• Experience in teaching bachelor and/or master courses in the area of business analytics and operations research

• Journal publications appropriate to academic age

• High level of initiative and ability to work in a team

• Programming skills (C/C++/Python/Julia preferred)

• Very good written and spoken English (level C1)

• German language skills are not required
