The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) invites applications for tenure-track Assistant Professor and Associate Professor positions in Algorithms. The preferred starting date is August 1, 2025, or as soon as possible thereafter.  

SDU Vejle is set to become an international IT research and educational environment. The campus will consist of two research centers aiming to be world-class research environments in computer science, artificial intelligence, interactive technology, and software engineering. The campus is a collaboration between the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science and the Maersk Mc-Kinney Møller Institute at SDU. Learn more about the new campus in Vejle here.

By 2032, SDU Vejle aims to host over 1,200 Danish and international students, employ more than 90 academic staff members, and annually graduate 300 skilled IT students.

Hired candidates will join the Algorithms Section (Algorithms group at IMADA, SDU) and the new SDU Center for Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence in Campus Vejle.

We seek candidates with a strong research record in efficient algorithms, broadly understood as spanning from algorithms engineering to complexity theory. Key research areas include:

Approximation algorithms

Combinatorial optimization

Cryptology

Data structures

Fine-grained complexity

Algorithmic research bridging to ML/AI

Center Vision and Mission

The SDU Center for Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence aims to:

Create scientific breakthroughs and knowledge within its academic focus.

Educate highly sought-after computer scientists and AI specialists.

Establish valuable collaborations with industry.

The center will focus on interdisciplinary research, bridging technical (machine learning, cloud technology) and theoretical (algorithms, programming languages) topics, as well as technology and society (cybersecurity, explainable AI).

Responsibilities

Research: Contribute to the center's research goals and collaborate with local and international partners.

Teaching: Participate in designing and implementing new international BSc and MSc programs in Computer Science and AI.

Industry Partnerships: Develop partnerships with the local industrial ecosystem.

For Associate Professor positions:

Proven ability to attract third-party funding.

Teaching

Experience in teaching and supervision at BSc and MSc levels.

For Associate Professor positions:

Extensive teaching experience across BSc and MSc levels.

Ability to design and deliver innovative courses.

The tenure-track position includes a guaranteed assessment for a tenured Associate Professor position after six years, contingent on a positive academic assessment.
