The Institute of Algorithms and Complexity at TUHH (www.algo.tuhh.de) in Hamburg, Germany, offers an exciting opportunity to work as a PhD student at the forefront of algorithms/optimization and quantum computing.

The successful candidate will research algorithms—both classic and quantum-inspired—for discrete/combinatorial optimization problems, mathematical programming, algorithmic game theory, or related fields. The position is part of the Hamburg Quantum Computing Project (https://www.physik.uni-hamburg.de/en/iqp/hqc/about-hqc.html), which is co-financed by the European Union. Hamburg is considered the Quantum Innovation Capital, with a vibrant and diverse environment in quantum computing, both on the physics side as well as the software/algorithms side.

Key Responsibilities:

Research and develop algorithms for discrete/combinatorial optimization problems.

Explore quantum-inspired algorithms and their applications.

Collaborate with a panel of established professors and scientists.

Participate in international conferences and workshops.

Contribute to the Hamburg Quantum Computing Project and related initiatives.

Position Details:

Duration: 3 years (full-time, 100%)

Salary: According to TV-L E-13 of the German public sector (exact amount depends on experience, family circumstances, tax classification, etc.)

Travel Funding: Available for attending conferences, workshops, and visiting other researchers.
