About this position
The Algorithm Engineering group at the Hasso Plattner Institute (HPI) invites applications for a PhD Student position in the area of (Random) Algorithms. The group is part of the Digital Engineering Faculty at the University of Potsdam and is located at the Campus Griebnitzsee, near Berlin.
The group of about twenty researchers uses mathematical and computer science methods to explore areas including artificial intelligence, network theory, and random structures. They offer an inspiring, collaborative research environment with exceptional students, modern facilities, and a generous travel allowance.

Requirement
Candidates are expected to have:
An excellent Master's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field.
Enthusiasm for mathematical problems and scientific work.
A strong desire to complete a PhD within 3-4 years.

A detailed CV.
A copy of the Master's thesis.
A list of courses and grades.
The name and contact details of 1-2 references (preferably including the thesis adviser).
The name of one group member (Timo Kötzing, Andreas Göbel, George Skretas, or Marcus Pappik) with a brief discussion of why their work is interesting to you.
Promising candidates will be given a 24-hour, open-book algorithmic test.
Successful candidates will then be invited for a video interview.
