Since launching Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect almost a year ago, HKEx has been active in helping to educate Mainland investors about the Hong Kong market operations and assisting Hong Kong-listed companies with best practices when it comes to investor relations in Mainland China. In fact, the scheme has opened up a whole new pool of potential investors for Hong Kong-listed companies, but a new survey by HKEx and the Shanghai Stock Exchange found many investors in Mainland China wanted to know more about the Hong Kong stock market, listed companies and corporate actions.
“It has become more important for Hong Kong-listed companies to spare more effort on onshore investor relations (IR) work in Mainland since the Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect programme was launched about a year ago,” Mao Zhirong, Managing Director and Co-Head HKEx's Mainland Division, said. “In this mutual market access era, more Hong Kong-listed companies see the need to engage with Mainland investors, but they face challenges due to the differences between the two markets; retail investors account for about 80 per cent of the onshore market.”
The latest in a series of steps to help educate the market was a symposium held yesterday to help listed companies enhance their investor relations in Mainland China. Representatives from more than 200 Hong Kong-listed companies heard about the best practices when reaching out to Mainland investors.
The symposium is just the latest effort in promoting the onshore investor relations culture and opening up corporate access opportunities for Hong Kong listed companies. HKEx has worked with Mainland brokers in organising Hong Kong stock investment promotion workshops, market data promotion packages, and more.
The symposium yesterday was also jointly-organised by the Hong Kong Investor Relations Association and The Listed Companies Council of Hong Kong Chinese Enterprises Association.
“We will continue to work with our listed companies to strengthen their understanding of the Mainland’s investment ecosystem, and to help them share in the benefits brought by the Stock Connect programme.” Mr Mao said.
