导读:Sixth-annual LME Asia Week kicks off in Hong Kong!

  • Sixth-annual LME Asia Week set to be the biggest ever, with over 800 delegates to the main seminar event and around 1,900 guests for the LME Asia Dinner

  • More diverse industry representation this year; new participants from precious metals, electric vehicle sectors, and from African markets

HKEX and the London Metal Exchange (LME) today kicked off the sixth-annual LME Asia Week, Asia’s leading metals event, bringing together hundreds of leading metals market participants from around the world to discuss the state of the industry and the opportunities ahead, with a particular focus on Mainland China and the rest of Asia.

An impressive line-up of speakers, panel discussions and networking sessions are set to make this year’s event the largest ever. More than 800 delegates are expected to attend the week’s premier event, the LME Asia Metals Seminar, while around 1,900 guests are registered to join the LME Asia Dinner, both taking place on Thursday, 17 May.

Hong Kong’s Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, James Lau, will deliver opening remarks at the LME Asia Metals Seminar. HKEX Chairman Laura Cha will give a welcome address, and there will also be keynote speeches by HKEX Chief Executive Charles Li and LME Chief Executive Matthew Chamberlain. LME is a wholly-owned subsidiary of HKEX.

The rise in attendance at LME Asia Week coincides with a more diverse industry representation among participants. This year, the event welcomes new participants from precious metals producers, as well as those in the electric vehicle industry, such as producers of new energy metals, batteries and carmakers.

In terms of geographic representation, LME Asia Week is welcoming new delegates from a number of African countries. Most LME Asia Week participants are from Asia and Europe, and many are based in Mainland China or the UK.

For this year, LME Asia Week features an expanded conference agenda, with speakers and panelists taking part in side events beginning on Tuesday that focus on precious metals, base metals and ferrous metals, respectively.

“We are delighted to see that LME Asia Week continues to build momentum, not only in terms of rising participation, but with the increased diversity of industry representation as well,” said HKEX Chief Executive Charles Li. “We look forward to lively discussions at this year’s event, which is particularly timely as recent reforms in China are helping cement its position as a dominant player in global commodities.”

“LME Asia Week allows us to forge deeper and lasting relationships with partners and stakeholders in China, the rest of Asia, and beyond,” said LME Chief Executive Matthew Chamberlain. “Asia is playing an increasingly crucial role in global commodity markets as physical demand for commodities in the region continues to significantly grow.”
