HKEX teamed up with the China Banking Association (CBA) for an IPO seminar this month to explain how Hong Kong can support the growth of Mainland banks. More than 20 top management from small and medium-sized commercial banks in the Mainland visited HKEX to learn about the IPO process, benefits of listing, and how to bring corporate governance in-line with international best practice.

One of the keynote speakers was HKEX Chief China Economist and CBA Chief Economist Professor Ba Shusong, who spent some time doing a deep dive into macroeconomic developments in Mainland China and Hong Kong, while HKEX Senior Vice President of Global Issuer Services Winnie Han detailed the new listing regime in Hong Kong, which now welcomes new economy companies that use non-standard share structures and pre-revenue biotech firms.

There was also some discussion on the various financing tools available, from both the equity and debt markets in Hong Kong, as well as the most effective way to prepare for a Hong Kong IPO.
HKEX has held seven training sessions with the support of the CBA and Hong Kong Institute of Bankers for Mainland banking executives in the past four years. Five banks that have participated in the seminars over the years have already listed in Hong Kong.
