HKEX held the Future Tech Summit in Beijing today, capping a month-long series of summits that also took place earlier in Shenzhen (10 May) and Shanghai (17 May).
In this series of summits, tech players across China, including entrepreneurs, investors and industry experts, exchanged ideas about the emerging opportunities in the tech sectors and the role of Hong Kong capital markets in facilitating the development of technological innovations.
The entire series drew over 1,000 participants who joined the summits in person, and the Shanghai session attracted over 143,000 online views.
Highlights of the Future Tech Summit Series:
HKEX Chief Executive Officer Nicolas Aguzin delivered welcome remarks at all three events, highlighting the important role that science and technology play in China’s growth story. He added that Hong Kong’s capital market can help fuel the aspirations of China’s technology entrepreneurs by offering these pioneers access to both onshore and international capital.
HKEX Co-Chief Operating Officer & Head of Equities Wilfred Yiu delivered a keynote speech in the Beijing summit. He explained how the new specialist technology companies listing rules will help advance Hong Kong’s leading role as a global capital raising hub and further support the connectivity between capital and technological innovations.
HKEX Chief China Economist Shusong Ba delivered a presentation in the Shanghai summit. He mentioned that with industrial transformations and upgrades underway in China, innovations in the financial sector will help promote the national “dual circulation” development model. He added that the new economy has reshaped Hong Kong’s capital markets, helping it further capture opportunities in China’s industrial transformation.
In the Shanghai and Beijing summits, HKEX Co-Head of Sales and Marketing Christina Bao held fireside chats respectively with Honghai Xu, Member of the National Intelligent Manufacturing Committee and President of the Shanghai Intelligent Manufacturing Association, and Harry Man, Partner of Matrix Partners China. In both sessions, they delved into the themes of China’s industrial transformation and upgrades, as well as the new opportunities presented by several technological megatrends.
HKEX Co-Heads of IPO Vetting LC Wong and Stephanie Lau introduced the new specialist technology company listing rules respectively in the Shanghai and Beijing summits. The Beijing summit featured a Q&A session on the regulatory matters relating to Hong Kong’s market.
HKEX Head of China Issuer Services Winnie Han hosted two panel discussions in the Shanghai and Beijing summits, facilitating conversations on the latest development in the technology sector and Hong Kong’s advantages as a world leading capital raising hub.
In the Beijing Summit, a panel featuring industry experts from organisations such as the China Cyberspace Security Association explored several important themes, including corporate data compliance with respect to new regulatory enhancements.
