HKEX Biotech Summit drew a big crowd to HKEX Connect Hall today to discuss the growing biotech ecosystem in Asia and Hong Kong, and explore the latest developments in the healthcare space.
HKEX Chief Executive Officer Nicolas Aguzin opened the event and highlighted HKEX’s instrumental role in connecting Asia’s biotech companies to global capital. Aguzin said HKEX has been particularly focused on expanding our international connectivity with the inclusion of international companies in Southbound Stock Connect and the launch of Chapter 18C for specialist technology companies, reinforcing Hong Kong’s role as a destination global biotech and healthcare market.
In a fireside chat between HKEX Co-Chief Operating Officer & Head of Equities Wilfred Yiu, President of HK Bio-Med Innotech Association Prof. Yuk Lam Lo and Executive President of PhIRDA Ruilin Song, the panelists discussed the ways to build a more robust healthcare ecosystem, and explained the importance of introducing an independent drug registration and approval system in Hong Kong, which could help speed up the drug approval process and attract more biotech companies to list at HKEX. Wilfred added that HKEX will continue to enhance our market infrastructure and product offerings, and join hands with the industry to build a more robust and diverse healthcare ecosystem in Hong Kong.
The conference also featured a regulatory update and FAQ session by HKEX Head of Listing Katherine Ng and HKEX IPO Vetting team, where they shared the latest updates regarding biotech and healthcare listings in Hong Kong and introduced different listing regimes that are available for biotech and frontier technology companies, such as the newly launched Chapter 18C.
Other highlights include four insightful panel discussions on a wide range of biotech-related hot topics, such as R&D and diversity in the industry. Panelists from various biotechnology companies shared how AI and mRNA-based technology bring real benefits to the society, and discussed the future of biotech investment and innovation.
