Alphabet Inc.’s Googleplans to spend several billion dollars to build a quantum computer by 2029 thatcan perform large-scale business and scientific calculations without errors,said Hartmut Neven, a distinguished scientist at Google who oversees thecompany’s Quantum AI program. The company recently opened an expanded California-based campus focused on the effort, he said.
“We are at this inflection point,” said Dr.Neven, who has been researching quantum computing at Google since 2006. “We now have the important components in hand that make us confident. We know how to execute the road map.”

This time the market is China, where Gogoro’s technology, including its swappable smart batteries,will be used in scooters made by Dachangjiang Group (DCJ),one of the country’s biggest motorcycle makers, and Yadea, one of its top electric two-wheelcompanies. DCJ and Yadea will jointly invest $50 million in an operatingcompany to develop new two-wheel vehicles with their own branding that use theGogoro Network, including its batteries, drivetrains, controllers and othercomponents.

On May 17, DC-based startup iCENeurosystems announced aversion of FDA approval for a subcutaneous electrode called iCE-SG, designed tomonitor the brain’s electrical activity from beneath the skin of the scalp.That electrode comes on the back of a 2020 Emergency Use Authorization (EUA)for iCE Neurosystems’ software platform called iCEWav, which was used in a D.C.area hospital to monitor the brain activity of patients in medically-inducedcomas during the Covid-19 pandemic.

German battery analytics software company Twaice has been taking aim at this problemsince its founding in 2018, and it announced Wednesday that it has raised $26million in Series B funding led by Chicago-based Energize Ventures. Thecompany, which primarily works in the mobility and energy storage industries,now has a total financing of $45 million.
