Beijing's foreign trade up 11.6% in Q1, making the biggest contribution to China's foreign trade growth
In order to "implement the Guiding Principles of the 20th CPC National Congress" , Beijing municipal government held a series of press conference, On April 25, a special press conference of "Beijing Customs Strengthen Border Control for Development" was held. Zhang Geping, Commissioner-general of Beijing Customs, introduced that Beijing's foreign trade made a good start in the first quarter (Q1) of this year, hitting 899.24 billion yuan, up 11.6 percent year-on-year. This figure is 6.8 percentage points higher than China's import and export growth rate over the same period, making the biggest contribution to the country's foreign trade growth, up to 20.8 percent.
It is reported that last year, Beijing Customs formulated and introduced 28 measures to ensure steady and high-quality growth in foreign trade, among which four measures, including the "pilot program of cross-border e-commerce for importing drugs and medical devices," were included in the top ten most influential policies for the Beijing "Two Zones" development plan. In 2022, Beijing's foreign trade stood at 3.64 trillion yuan, up 19.7 from a year earlier, with its imports and contribution to the country's import and export growth both ranking first in China.
During the 2022 China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS), the Summit Forum on Trade Facilitation in Services in Multinationals’ Perspective was held, Yin Yong, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee indicated that the world economy still faces strong headwinds on its path toward recovery, while a new round of technological and industrial revolution has spurred a boom in digital technologies, further deepened the integration of industries, and led the development of trade in services. Beijing's service trade is at the forefront of the country, with steady growth in scale, continued improvements in quality, strong digital driving force, and greater facilitation. In the future, Beijing will proactively facilitate the cross-border flow of factors, follow and improve talent introduction and security policies, and stimulate new growth drivers for trade in services through digitization.
At the thematic event of "Beijing Day" held during this year's CIFTIS, Beijing makes an inventory of the achievements in building the "Two Zones" over the past two years, and showcased its new image under the opportunity of opening-up. In addition, Beijing unveiled the top ten most influential policies after seeking comments from the public from the dimensions of practicality, innovation and openness, and officially released the evaluation results at the event. The ten policies fully reflect the core values of the "two zones" development and the expectations of enterprises and society. The evaluation results include the "white list" system for import of biomedical research and development articles established for solving the scientific research dilemma of biomedical enterprises, pilot projects for import of medicines and parallel cars by cross-border e-commerce to meet the needs of upgrading public consumption, a raft of policies such as integrated domestic and foreign currency capital pool implemented to facilitate enterprises' cross-border trade and investment, and an overseas professional qualification accreditation system for gathering global talent and facilitating the flow of talent.
