On the morning of September 3, Invest in China Year - The Promotion Conference on Greater Openness in the Services Sector of the 2023 CIFTIS kicked off. Themed "China's Services Sector, New Opportunity for Global Development", the conference took stock of the results of comprehensive pilot program for greater openness in China's services sector, and displayed the new image of China under the opportunity of opening up. This conference featured many highlights.

High Degree of Internationalization

Mikayil Jabbarov, Minister of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Lord Johnson, Minister of State in the Department for Business and Trade, and other ministerial guests, heads of international organizations including Dorothy Tembo, deputy executive director of the International Trade Centre (ITC), as well as executives from Fortune Global 500 companies including Doson Yoon, global vice president of CJ Group, and Anna Van Acker, senior vice-president of MSD and president of MSD China, attended and addressed the conference. They all commended China for accelerating the opening up of its services sector and providing new opportunities for world development. They hope to strengthen investment and trade cooperation with China and share a bright future of openness and prosperity. Representatives from the embassies of the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Pakistan and other countries, as well as executives of domestic and foreign business associations and multinationals, totaling 600-plus guests, attended the conference and witnessed the achievements of greater openness in China's services sector.

Releases of Great Potential

The conference released nine best practice cases for the national comprehensive pilot program for greater openness in the services sector for the year 2023, involving financial innovation, green development, digital economy, healthcare, modern logistics, professional services, as well as the integration of modern services industries with advanced manufacturing, to explore comprehensive solutions for the open development of related industries. This new batch of cases, once again, recorded the degree of openness, innovation, and reform, establishing a model for the national comprehensive pilot program for greater openness in the services sector, and providing a reference for promoting the openness and innovation of the services sector and the accelerating the development of modern services industries both domestically and internationally. At the same time, the conference released the Report on the Development of the National Comprehensive Pilot Program for Greater Openness in the Services Sector 2023, showing the world the vigorous and upward development trend of the further opening up of China's services sector, and providing a valuable reference for investing in China.

Fruitful Opening-up Achievements

Revolving around the dimensions of practicality, innovation and openness, the conference focused on China's policies of expanding opening-up in intellectual property and other fields, showing the advantages of the open environment and favorable investment policies of China's services sector. Of the pilot provinces and cities, Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Hainan and Chongqing promoted the new achievements and investment opportunities of the comprehensive pilot program for greater openness in the services sector on the spot, demonstrating the potential of investment cooperation in China's service industry. 11 pilot provinces and cities displayed a number of iconic projects that have been put in place, including the first newly established wholly foreign-owned securities company in China, the first auxiliary platform for trade authenticity audit in China, the first Sino-Singapore cooperative bonded aviation materials supervision innovation in China, and the first innovation zone for international people-to-people exchange education in China, attracting global investors with solid results.

High-value Cooperative Projects

At the conference, the provinces where the pilot cities Shenyang, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Wuhan, Guangzhou, and Chengdu are located collectively released the Wuli River Metaverse Innovation Base, Singapore Nanjing Eco High-tech Island, Hangzhou International Digital Trade Port and 15 other key cooperation projects. Representatives of 11 pilot provinces and cities have held project negotiations with domestic and foreign investors. A total of 35 projects were negotiated on-site, covering eight major sectors including business services, technology services, healthcare, and financial services, with an estimated investment amount exceeding 70 billion yuan.
