主讲题目Research in Psychology at the University of Central Lancashire
讲座内容Dr Jamie Taylor will present an insight into research in Psychology at the University of Central Lancashire.
The presentation will focus on research of the Perception, Cognition and Neuroscience group, the Forensic Psychology group, and Quality of life research group at the University of Central Lancashire.
The Perception, Cognition and Neuroscience Group is led by Professor Simon Liversedge and constitutes over 30 researchers. Prof Liversedge’s work focuses on eye-movements during reading (Englishand Chinese reading) utilising methodologies including eye-tracking and brain imaging. Other work of this group includes research on attention and distraction, decision making and creativity.
The Forensic Psychology Research group is led by Dr Jane Ireland who is a practicing Forensic Psychologist at Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust, where she runs violence therapy programmes. Jane and her team have published widely in the areas of aggression, psychopathy, personality disorder, and psychological trauma
Professor Janice Abott’s work focuses on developing measures for Quality of Life for people with serious health conditions such as cystic fibrosis and lupus. Her work has contributed to changing mental health care and improving wellbeing in people with cystic fibrosis across the world.
Dr Taylor’s own research investigates the development of expertise in Sport. His published work focuses on developmental pathways among aspiring elite golfers and explores changes in cognition at different stages of learning. His research has led to applications in both sport and in education to enhance learning.

Dr Jamie Taylor is Dean of the School of Psychology & Humanities.
Dr Taylor is responsible for strategic leadership in the School of Psychology and Humanities. This is a large school with over 200 staff members covering a wide range of subject areas including Psychology, Education, Modern Languages, TESOL, English, History, Sociology, Religion, International Relations, British Sign Language and Deaf Studies.
The school delivers high quality teaching and learning to students from diverse background. We are committed to widening participation in higher education. Programmes are underpinned by high quality research and knowledge exchange activity. The school is highly research active and made a substantial contribution in the most recent Research Excellence Framework across ten different units of assessment.
Dr Taylor has worked at the University of Central Lancashire since 2004, starting initially as a lecturer and progressed up to his current role of Dean of Psychology & Humanities in 2023. Prior to this he was Head of the School of Psychology & Computer Science (2020-2023) and Head of School of Psychology (2018-2020). Jamie lectured in Sport Psychology at Liverpool Hope University College prior to joining the University of Central Lancashire.
Dr Taylor is a Chartered Psychologist (BPS), a full member of the Division of Sport & Exercise Psychology (BPS), a registered Sport & Exercise Psychologist (HCPC), and Senior Fellow of Advance HE. Jamie has previously served on the BPS Division of Sport & Exercise Psychology Committee. He is an active member of the Association of Heads of Psychology Departments.
Jamie’s PhD was in Sport Psychology, examining the relationship between self-efficacy and sport performance. He is an active researcher and has supervised several PhD’s covering topics such as talent development, decision making, and strengths assessment in sport. Recent research has focused on understanding predictors of student experience in Higher Education.
