
The training workshop invited international experts from various fields such as professor from University of Leicester, technology research and development of CSRG and IT services in Colombia to focus on how to use digital technologies to provide online dispute resolution for consumers. During three-day training and discussion, which was analyzed from the aspects of online dispute resolution related technology development and assistance, emerging technology applications and experience in the implementation of CDR/ODR systems. It aims to help beneficiary countries critically think about how best to design and implement a consumer dispute resolution system that best suits their country’s needs.
The workshop analyzed the experiences of countries such as Colombia, Spain, UK and other countries in online dispute resolution, as well as the issues and challenges they faced. Participants believed that the lack of penetrating Internet infrastructure and the lack of mutual trust in all aspects of dispute resolution are important obstacles to the rapid, fast and effective dispute resolution.
The United Nations Guidelines for Consumer Protection call for fair, effective, transparent and impartial mechanism to address consumer complaints, including for cross-border cases. Most experts agreed that providing ODR is one of the best means to increasing consumer trust in electronic commerce in developing countries.
Based on Digital Trading Infrastructure(DTI) for the online dispute resolution, build an online dispute resolution platform with blockchain mode and other digital technologies, provide cross-border electronic merchants with deposit and proof mechanism, provide consumers with low-cost, fast, effective, fair, transparent and secure ODR (Online Consumer Dispute Resolution) solutions, strengthen consumer protection and consumer trust in the digital market, improve international trade and e-commerce.
With Thailand and Indonesia as pilot beneficiaries, DODR helps consumers in Thailand and Indonesia to implement the most effective online dispute resolution system, which will be promoted to ASEAN and other regions.
