在第四届进博会期间,西门子能源大中华区首席执行官姚振国接受了China Daily的采访,分享了他对进博会以及对中国市场业务机遇的想法。以下为采访英文原文,刊载于2021年11月12日的China Daily。
Q: In the context of the ongoing world economic recovery, do you think the CIIE has any added significance?
Yao: At a time of uncertainties, the world needs constructive voices for cooperation, positive gestures for inclusion, and concrete actions to press ahead with innovation. These are what can be expected from CIIE this year by the whole world.
Q: What prospects does your industry have in the China market?
Yao: China's goal to reach peak carbon emissions by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060 is not only about energy transition, but also about promoting higher-level international cooperation and technological innovation in the face of global climate change challenges. This will provide a broader scope of cooperation for leading global energy technology companies like Siemens Energy especially in the field of renewable energy. We believe we have such entrepreneurial power, innovation capability and advanced technologies, and more than these, the conviction to support China on its journey of decarbonization by co-creating a new energy ecosystem together with our Chinese partners.
Q: There is a widely held view that business environment in China has improved tremendously in recent times. Are you confident it will continue to improve as the country vigorously rolls out higher-level opening-up? If yes, please elaborate.
Yao: The answer is a clear "yes". As an example, Siemens Energy chose to register in the Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone before operating independently in China in May 2020. Shortly thereafter, during the epidemic, we injected an additional 3.8 billion yuan ($593 million). This best tells our confidence in China's future development as a multinational company and our determination to continue expanding cooperation with our Chinese partners.
Q: What's your view on China's current level of opening-up? What contribution has China made to the world by continuously opening up its markets and economy to foreign investors and companies?
Yao: To give it historical perspective, with China's tremendous achievements in various aspects of society, economy and international influence over the past decades, those "worries" at the very early days of opening up and reform among many people have been largely eliminated.
Along with the high-quality development of China's economy and trade, and the continuous internationalization of laws and regulations, the country is conveying a strong message of "determination" and "confidence" to the world, be it with the Belt and Road Initiative or the CIIE.
Q: What else can China do to ensure higher-level opening-up proves even more effective in the future?
Yao: China is already fast to formulate further opening-up action plans. The next is to continue this great momentum in a faster forward mode, especially in the area of global technical cooperation in building up a green economy. As a matter of fact, most low-carbon technologies for decarbonization are already available, but we need to come closer to drive faster application of these technologies on a larger scale, in order to benefit from economies of scale and reduce carbon emissions in the fastest and most efficient way. Siemens Energy is ready for contributing more through expanded collaboration with our Chinese partners.
Q: Compared with some other countries, how does China's firm support for free trade and multilateralism fare?
Yao: No country can stand alone and face the mega challenges that impact the shared destiny of the whole humankind. This is especially true in the fight against climate change. In the area of decarbonization, China has been strongly advocating international cooperation and recently defined much concrete actions to boost international cooperation. We are ready to contribute more of our innovations and advanced technologies to support China on its journey to a decarbonized future.
