I am Oliver Jones, an Englishman who has lived in Chengdu for 3 years and is currently studying Chinese.

Video creation is a new hobby that I developed in the past year . At that time, it was during the period of home isolation after the outbreak, and there was no way to reunite with relatives. I started to record my life in China with a camera, but unexpectedly found that I really enjoyed the process of shooting and editing videos.
So, I started my own Youtube Channel, regularly updated my life through VLOGS and shoot some video related to culture exchange. Up to now, I can only call myself an amateur video enthusiast, but with constant updates over the past year, my skill has indeed improved visibly.
After seeing this tweet about the short video creation competition , I made a decisive decision to participate.
This competition will not only become a source of inspiration for future creation, but also prove that my hard studies and practice this year has not been in vain.I was determined to do this and asked my friends to join - everyone happily agreed to my invitation.
就这样,“We love Chengdu is much”战队正式成立了。
In this way, the " We love Chengdu is much " team was formally established.(Oliver: The name of my team features a typo that I hadn't noticed until the time of writing. Why did no one in my team tell me about this?)
"Internationalization of the city affected ......" Hey, what a coincidence, as foreigners who have lived in Chengdu for many years, don't we happen to be part of the internationalization of this city?
But what has chengdu given us? I continue to ask this to people around. We got different answers which made this whole process fun and unique.
With inspiration, with ideas, with the frame, everything seems to be in an orderly manner – But there is one thing that makes it difficult. This competition requires teamwork to complete, and my previous video creations were all done by myself.
Guys, can you imagine two British guys, a South African and an American sitting together drinking bottles of beer?
Obviously, my friends have different understandings of "sitting quietly and shooting videos". Everyone does not have much shooting experience. It often takes a while to find a stable shooting state. Sometimes everyone will continue to stare at the camera awkwardly after their part, which affected the original material.
Sometimes people don’t follow the script and do an impromptu performance. Remember the part where the American Jared vomited chips all over the floor? This scene was originally not in the script. As the director, I was almost pissed off at him, but when I was editing the film, I found that many improvisations really added a lot of humor to the video , and the presentation effect was much better than I expected in many ways.
Tom provided the venue for the shooting, so the main scenes are done in his home. He even wrote lyrics for a parody song for the video.
If there was more time, I think I will really present this song. Its melody is simple and lively, even a bit brainwashed, and the lyrics are very interesting, but it involves a lot of shooting and content editing, which is difficult to complete in two weeks, so we finally had to give up this idea. However, many of the highlights of the lyrics have been used in the dialogue of the video.
I also have an especially strong affection for a well crafted montage so I obviously had to include one in our video. Brosnan (who played 'South African') and I spent a couple afternoons cycling around Chengdu looking for the most picturesque sights. What we imsteqd came across were Japanese restaurants and coffee shops.
These took more of our time than I would have liked so instead of showcasing the hidden nooks and crannies of the city we settled for Chunxi road and called it a day. We tried a few different dance moves in front of the big panda on the IFS building. The people around us stopped taking photos of the panda in awe of the majestic sight of two white boys attempting the the art of dance.
For everyone in the team, this video contains all aspects of our lives, including ordinary daily life, cultural run-ins, sad stories, unexpected gains, moving moments, and painful torture. ……Although the effect of the whole video is funny, it cannot be denied that all of this has had a profound impact on our lives.
