Whitefish is a small Montana town of about 5000 people. Its beginnings were rooted around the rail system and the city built around the tracks. Today, freight and passenger trains still travel through the town and Whitefish is notable as one of Amtrak's top ten stops.
Of special interest, the Stumptown Museum, located in the historic depot building, includes many railroad artifacts as well as community memorabilia and photographs. In 1990 the Depot was restored by the Historical Society to its original 1927 Glacier National Park chalet-like appearance.
