For our final book club/film collaboration we have gone for one of Hollywood’s favourite authors, Elmore Leonard. With several cult classics under his belt such as Freaky Deaky, Be Cool and Get Shorty, we chose Out of Sight because, well, they had me at “gentleman bank robber.” Come buy the book to collect your free drink at the event and experience eye-candy George Clooney and a surprisingly excellent Jennifer Lopez at the screening of Steven Soderbergh’s 1998 adaptation.
Those who buy a book at The Bookworm can enjoy a free drink at the book club meeting on Wednesday, November 18.

On March 5, 2015, Premier Li Keqiang announced the “Made in China 2025” concept, emphasizing the integration of manufacturing and Internet Plus. It is estimated that the speed of China’s industrial internet development will boost GDP growth by at least 3 trillion USD over the next 20 years. The first draft of the Chinese Manufacturing Industry Development Outline (2015-2025) touches on various industries: information technology, bio pharmaceutical and bio manufacturing, high-end equipment manufacturing and energy.
AmCham’s Information & Communication Technology (ICT) Forum and the Yida New Software Park will jointly hold a panel discussion with policy maker (CCID Consulting Group) and leading industry experts (Oracle, Intel, Deloitte, and Yida New Software Park) covering business opportunities and strategies in relation to the trend of China’s Industry 4.0 and Internet Plus. Speakers will debrief China’s “Industry 4.0” and “Internet Plus” guide, share its impact on foreign MNCs and possible future trend.

Chengdu native Zhou Hui began playing pipa at age six and made her public debut a year later. She won the Artist of Excellence gold medal in the International Pipa Instrument Competition, and joined pianist Lang Lang in recording Hans Zimmer’s soundtrack to the German animated classic Laura’s Star (2004). In 2013 she earned a China Conservatory professorship with state-honoured status; the following year she authored a book about creative teaching methods for pipa. This month, Zhou joins students from China Conservatory of Music’s Kaku Instrumental Music School for an evening of solo and ensemble pieces. We hope to see you there!
