The economic landscape at the beginning of 2016 is undoubtedly more challenging to decipher than in previous years. The National Bureau of Statistics of China (NBSC) have released the preliminary estimation for GDP data in the first quarter Q1 2016 at 15,852.6 billion yuan. The overall growth rate of 6.7% could be an indication of mounting pressure of economic development and China’s adjustment to the ‘new normal’.

An Evening of Poetry and Tales with Award Winning Chinese American Writer Marilyn Chin

Marilyn Chin will be in Beijing to celebrate a brand new, beautiful bilingual edition of her selected poems. She will also read from her wild girl book of tales “Revenge of the Mooncake Vixen.”
Chin was born in Hong Kong and raised in Portland, Oregon. Her books have become Asian American classics and are taught in classrooms internationally. Marilyn Chin has read her poetry at the Library of Congress. She was interviewed by Bill Moyers’ and featured in his PBS series The Language of Life and in PBS Poetry Everywhere.
China Xinjiang Exotic Culture-Xinjiang Uygur Dance Art

The Bookworm presents a series of lectures which involve the following four different kinds of ethnic minorities of Xinjiang dance: Uygur dance, Kazakh dance, Tatar ethnic dance and Tajik dance. This Wednesday we will focus on Uygur Dance.
Xinjiang Uygur dance (Uyghur) has very rich western dance style which combined folk music. Uygur dance form for thousands of years of history into three broad categories: labor dance, religious ritual dance of life and love. Clothing attire and open action expression, to the spread of Islam Uygur dance costumes and moves slowly over time the evolution of the development of a more conservative.
And Uygur dance art event at bookworm will include the following:
Minority dance pictures, music and video display
Live dance demonstration and dance workshop
Introduction of Xinjiang minority: history, language, cultural…
Introduction of music, dance and dress style: instrument, rhythm, characteristic, geographical features, style, rhythm characteristic… different parts of the dance costumes, the decorative pattern on the dress, hat…
The lecture will be presented by Seyyare Tashbaywa. She was born in Xinjiang and graduated from Xinjiang Academy of Art and she is a professional stage director, drama director, choreography, and dance teacher.
