Are you in need of a job right now? Are you struggling in finding the right fit for you and starting to feel discouraged? There are some initiatives you can take in order to put all the chances on your side.
We will share crucial tips on how to obtain a job offer from the application to the interview process according to two successful professionals coming from both China and Italy.
BEFORE THE INTERVIEW
Upgrade you Resume
Depending on the job you will be applying for, you will need to make some modifications on your resume
so that it is more closely related to the job itself and therefore more appealing to the employer. As an
example, if you are applying for a marketing position and/or a finance position, your resume should look
slightly different so that you put an emphasis on the industry or sector you are a targeting.
You want to “be ready” and show the employer you already have knowledge and experience that are
valuable for the job position you are applying for.
Do research about the industry and the company
You should always be more prepared than not and nowadays, and it is very easy to find basic information online. Go onto Google or LinkedIn and double check if the company exists, how long ago was the job opportunity posted, and also learn as much as you can about both the company and the industry. Being able to get a good understanding of the what the company stands for and the trends of the industry is going to show the employer that you are not only passionate about it, but also that you are knowledgeable and therefore could be the best fit for the company.
Quality over quantity
Finding a job can be very stressful, especially if you are in a hurry to find something quick, but you should always remember that it is better to send quality applications than to send several applications with less focus. Two reasons for that are (1) You want to get a job you will truly like and enjoy. (2) You want to focus on sending a quality application so that it stands out against others.
Write a cover letter
While it is possible to get a job without having to write a cover letter, you always want to be on the safe
side and sell yourself as much as possible. Writing a cover letter is a very good way to make your application more unique and to retain the employer’s attention. Don’t forget to stay brief, but be aware of your own capabilities and focus on your personal experiences that relate to the job you are applying for.
DURING THE INTERVIEW

Avoid being too broad
During you interview, you want to be as detailed as possible and avoid answers such as “I am dynamic”
which he/she probably heard 100 times already. Stay honest and be more practical. You want the employer to remember you and therefore not provide generic answers.
Be yourself
We are all human and it is acceptable to put emotions in what you are saying to express how passionate
you are about something. You do not want to sound like a robot who learned his/her lesson by heart.
Being prepared for the interview does not mean trying to figure out and prepare all the possible answers
but rather feel comfortable with what you want, what is a fit for you, and in which ways does this job offer
fulfil your needs. Focus on finding a balance between casual and professional.
AFTER THE INTERVIEW

Follow up after the interview
As a rule of thumb, you ALWAYS need to follow up. If the interview went really well, you should send an
email the day of. if you are unsure about how the interview went wait about three days, and if you do not
feel like It went as well you can wait one week and then send out something.
