Head of the North American Spatial Intelligence Research Institute

The Head of Institute will lead our strategic vision, research initiatives, and operational excellence. This role demands expertise in spatial intelligence (geospatial AI, remote sensing, GIS), strong leadership in academic/commercial research, and a proven ability to drive partnerships, funding, and technological innovation.
Duties

Strategic Leadership
Define and execute our 5-year research roadmap aligned with global trends.
Foster collaborations with governments, academia, and industry partners.
Research & Innovation
Oversee R&D in spatial AI, predictive modeling, and real-time geospatial analytics.
Secure grants, contracts, and philanthropic funding.
Team Management
Build and lead a multidisciplinary team of 20+ researchers, data scientists, and engineers.
Cultivate a culture of innovation, inclusion, and excellence.
Stakeholder Engagement
Represent NASIRI at international conferences (e.g., GEOINT Symposium).
Advise policymakers and industry leaders on spatial intelligence applications.
Operational Oversight
Manage annual budget, partnerships, and institute governance.
Ensure ethical compliance and data security standards (e.g., NIST, GDPR).
Qualifications

Education & Experience
PhD in Geospatial Science, Computer Vision, Remote Sensing, or related field.
15+ years in research leadership, with 5+ years directing large-scale spatial/AI projects.
Track record of peer-reviewed publications and funded research (NSF, DARPA, etc.).
Technical Skills
Mastery of geospatial tools (e.g., QGIS, ArcGIS), ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow), and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP).
Deep knowledge of EO data (SAR, LiDAR, multispectral), spatial databases, and IoT integration.
Leadership Traits
Inspirational communicator; adept at bridging technical and executive audiences.
Entrepreneurial mindset with experience in tech transfer or commercialization.
Commitment to diversity, mentorship, and ethical AI practices.
