About CGTN
Our client is China’s new international media organization. It aims to provide global audiences with accurate and timely news coverage as well as rich audiovisual services, promoting communication and understanding between China and the world, and enhancing cultural exchanges and mutual trust between China and other countries.
The Role
We are now seeking an Anchor, General News, to join the news presenting team at our global headquarters in Beijing, China.
Duties
Present international news and feature programming to a general audience in an engaging and compelling way.
Perform live and recorded interviews.
Write and edit scripts and links when required, often under tight time pressure.
Assist in researching and writing questions, working closely with producers, writers and guest bookers.
Perform other presenting duties across various multimedia platforms when requested.
Participate as a brand ambassador in occasional events.
Qualifications
Candidate Details
The ideal candidate has a solid background in TV journalism and a spirit for adventure. He or she will be joining our team at a time of major expansion.
Successful candidates need to be great storytellers, have engaging live skills, and be experienced at handling breaking news.
Candidates should have a high tolerance for ambiguity and be independent to thrive in a country where they likely don’t speak the language.
Preferred: candidates have previously lived and worked abroad.
Professional Experience
Required: 5+ years as a broadcast TV news anchor.
Preferred: Previous reporting/anchoring experience in China/APAC.
Technical Skills
Required: Smooth, mature, confident on-air presence with flawless segues; carry on a conversation with the viewers, find urgency in stories, and engage the audience; come prepared for show and editorial meetings with developed lead story ideas; write and edit accurate, concise, compelling copy; live shot expertise; review reporter copy for accuracy, conversational writing, and clarity.
Language Skills
Required: Native English Speaker
Personality Requirements
Required: Flexible, adaptable, and approachable. A reputation as a “go to” person in the newsroom; a mentor for up-and-coming journalists.
Motivational Requirements
Required: Wants experience working in China.
Preferred: A desire to build a career with us.
