Detailed traffic restrictions announced for Import Expo

Rules about the restriction of cars with non-Shanghai plates using the city’s elevated roads will be adjusted for the upcoming China International Import Expo, Shanghai police announced on Friday.

Cars with non-Shanghai plates are banned from using elevated roads from 7 to 10am and from 3 to 8pm on weekdays, but this rule will apply differently before and during the expo.

The expo will be held from November 5 to 10. Previously the government announced that November 5 and 6, which are Monday and Tuesday, will be non-working days, while November 3 and 11, which are Saturday and Sunday, will be working days.

According to the traffic rules specific to the expo, cars with non-Shanghai plates and temporary plates won’t be restricted from using the elevated roads on November 3 and 11, although they’re supposed to be working days. Motorists can also use bus-only lanes without restriction on the two days.

However, from November 4 to 6, all such cars will be banned from using the elevated roads from 7am to 8pm.

Meanwhile, from November 1 to 10, certain traffic restrictions will be implemented at the area surrounding the site of the expo, the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Qingpu District.

From November 4 to 10, between 6am and 9pm, all vehicles with no license to enter the site — except buses and taxis — will be banned from the nine-square-kilometer area surrounded by Tianshan Road W., Panlong Road, Huqingping Highway and Huaxiang Road, excluding those four roads.

From November 5 to 10, between 8am and 7pm, all non-motor vehicles are restricted from entering the area surrounded by Songze Avenue, Laigang Road, Yinggang Road E., Panxiu Road, Xumin Road E., Panwen Road, Panzhong Road E. and Panzhen Road, excluding these roads.

Also, from November 5 to 10, certain lanes of streets and expressways near the site of the expo will be reserved for buses only from 7 to 10am and from 3 to 7pm.

From November 1 to 11, between 5am and 10pm, all trucks will be banned from the area surrounded by Huqingping Highway, Huaxu Highway, Tianshan Road W. and Qixin Road and the part of G50 Expressway from G15 to the Outer Ring Road.

Police said they will inform leading map software operators of the above temporary measures so as to prevent motorists from violating the ban.

Considering the vicinity of the expo site to Hongqiao traffic hub, police remind the public that people taking trains and planes at Hongqiao Railway Station and Airport during the expo should use public transportation and leave home earlier.
