As we all know, driving in a big city like Shanghai and Beijing is a not easy thing. It's easy for us to caught by the police or the traffic cameral.

There are around 5,800,000 motor vehicles inBeijing and 3,600,000 in Shanghai. The traffic in these two cities sometimesare terrible, the city is too big, there are so many roads, sometimes we don’tknow what is the road like when we go to the new district, plus there are limited parking place andthere are many “crazy” drivers , pedestrian and non-motor vehicle. It's easyfor us to caught by the police or the traffic cameral.
Here is my experiencesdriving in Shanghai:
My driving license inShanghai cost me around 15,000RMB including the tuition fee and other related fees. That was in Nov. 2014 andI got my license in Nov.2015 because I was busy and practiced too less, andsometimes I was there, but my mind is thinking about my jobL. 2014-2015 is the mostexpensive time for getting a driving license in Shanghai. The price now isaround 7,000-9,000 RMB.
I start to drive inShanghai form February,2017. I was caught by traffic police 3 times and myyounger brother was caught 1 time:
I lost 6 points and got 500RMB penalty. My brother lost 3 points and got 200 RMB penalty.
1.When I had the temporaryplate I drove on the middle
ring road, which is not allowed. I lost 3 points and 200 RMB penalty.
Lessons:
A. When we drive with the temporary plate andthe plate from
outside Shanghai, we should never drive on the middle
ring road onthe weekdays (it’s a whole day restriction).
Weekends and publicholidays we can drive freely.
B. All the highways in thecenter of Shanghai not allow thetemporary
plate, internship driver, empty taxi and non- Shanghai plate to drive
during the rush hours ( 7-10 am in themorning and 3-8pm
in the afternoon) of weekdays.
If you did so, you will lose 3 points and get 200 RMB penalty.
Weekends, public holidaysand non-rush hours we can drive freely.
2. I drove to the bus lane one time and the same time I forget to take my vehicle registration with me.
I got 100 RMB penalty becauseI drove to the bus lane in rush hours (as above mentioned);100 RMB and lost 1point because I forget to take my vehicle registration with me.
3. When my brother drove my car go through the east Yan'an road tunnel during rush hours with the temporary plate, he lost 3 point’s and got 200 RMB penalty.
Lesson: The east Yan ‘an Tunnel is the onlytunnel in Shanghai that not allow the cars with temporary plate and the plate from outside Shanghai.
So it’s very important toknow what shall we do when we got the penalty or lost our point?
There are two situations:
A. Caught by the cops inperson.
The police will give you the ‘ticket” it haswhat law/ rule you have break, and the points you lost.
Then you just need to find an ICBC ATM tochoose paying for penalty, then follow the steps and paid the money. We will befine.
B. Caught by the traffic cameral:
We need to go to theTraffic police to clear it up.
