Compared to air, road and sea freight, rail freight is relatively immune to disruptions, trains have not been subject to border closures by local authorities and flow continuously. While air freight traffic declined since the outbreak of the pandemic, train and rail cargo volume between Europe and China increased in the first quarter of 2020.
