On April 4, 2019， the Luxembourg Railway Station was in a bustle, crowded with a bunch of people. Everyone here witnessed the departure of the first direct China Railway Express (Chengdu-Europe Block Train) from Luxembourg to Chengdu International Railway Port.
At 9 a.m., the train sounded its siren and left the Luxembourg Railway Station. This first train will pass through Germany, Poland, Belarus, Russia, Kazakhstan, etc. and enter China from Alataw Pass Port in Xinjiang. It is expected to arrive at Chengdu Qingbaijiang International Railway Port in 15 days. Up to now, the China Railway Express (Chengdu-Europe Block Train) has connected 25 overseas cities and 14 domestic cities, linking the major node cities in Eurasia, and altogether creating 7 international railway channels and 5 international rail-sea intermodal channels.
Both China and Luxembourg expressed their expectations for the dispatching of this train. Félix Braz, Deputy Prime Minister of Luxembourg, cheerfully mentioned in his speech that China has a long history and profound cultural deposits. Over the past 20 years, it has insisted on reform and opening up and foreign cooperation. With its fast-growing economy, China now is an important economic entity in the world. He hoped that in the future, China and Luxembourg will not only carry out cooperation in the economic field, but also strengthen the exchanges in such aspects as culture, art and education. Also, he expressed his heartfelt congratulations on the opening of Luxembourg-Chengdu China Railway Express because it is a symbol of the deepening friendly exchanges between the two countries in economic, cultural and other fields.
Yin Li, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee and Provincial Governor, said: "Today, the train will pass through the Eurasia and smoothly arrive at Chengdu Qingbaijiang International Railway Port with goods full of 'China-Luxembourg Friendship' after running nearly 10,000 kilometers. Here, I would like to express my sincere thanks to all sectors of Luxembourg for promoting the "Belt and Road" cooperation between China and Luxembourg and the development of bilateral relation; and also, many thanks to Luxembourg CFL Multimodal and other China-Luxembourg enterprises that have helped the launching of this train!"
From 31 trains in 2013 to 2,619 trains in 2018, Chengdu-Europe Block Train has ranked the first nationwide in the amount of operated trains in both the China Railway Express and international trains for three consecutive years, showing a true "Chengdu speed". Its rapid development speed fully proves that the "Belt and Road" Initiative is generally welcomed and supported by relevant countries, and reflects the full recognition of these countries to the Silk Road spirit of "peace and cooperation, openness and inclusiveness, mutual learning and mutual benefit" and their strong pursuit of building a community with a shared future for mankind.
Taking advantage of the good beginning of the first train, both the Chinese side and Luxembourg side expressed that they would continuously improve the operation of direct trains, normalize the two-way operation of the train as soon as possible, and implement the consensuses reached by the two countries, so as to bring more quality goods "made in China" into Luxembourg and make the train a symbol of win-win cooperation between the two countries. They believed that the China Railway Express (Chengdu-Europe Block Train) will become the "Orient Express" to drive the EU-China cooperation in various key fields, enrich the connotation of China-Luxembourg friendship, and realize the common development of China, Luxembourg and the countries and regions along the "Belt and Road" Initiative.
