Oriental Aesthetics Bamboo Culture

Since Hemudu people used bamboo products seven thousand years ago,the Chinese people have forged an indissoluble bond with bamboo.

Bamboo is regarded as the gentleman in China.“Bamboo owns gentleman’s virtue”,as written in Ouyang Xiu’s poetry. The ancients are infatuated with bamboo as their lives,recalling the gentlemen with bamboo and seeing bamboo as seeing the gentleman.Bamboo is a special plant in the botanical kingdom of China,remaining green throughout the year and shady from the sun,embodies with ornamentality and practicability.It is not only a rare food material in winter and spring,which greatly enriches the Chinese food culture,but also tall and slender,which is excellent material for living tools and artistic creation.In China,bamboo has added a unique category to Chinese culture,namely,the “bamboo culture”,which is permeated to the texture of Chinese people’s clothing ,food,housing,transportation and entertainment,and imprinted in the literature,music,painting ,religion,folk customs and gardens.

“The Realm of Bamboo”is verdant and tranquil.Ten thousand mu of green bamboos grow in Anji(Zhejiang Province),Chishui(Guizhou Province) and Yibin(Sichuan Province)in China,which forms the magnificent view of bamboo seas.“The Voice of Bamboo”is secluded ,spiritual and melodious,ranging from “Xiao made by Shun,with bamboos uneven in length and shape like phoenix wings ” to “Zheng,Zhu,Sheng,Yu”.The bamboo musical instruments have constantly enriched Chinese folk music.“The Art of Bamboo”has a long and profound history,from the poems of “At the winding Qi River,luxuriant bamboo forests stretch”in the Book of Songs to the flourishing tendency of bamboo painting and chanting led by famous artists such as Zheng Banqiao and Bai Juyi.Bamboo has always been shining brightly in China’s aesthetic world.“The Use of Bamboo”is extensive and diverse.Su Dongpo sighed with emotion that“Rather eating without meat than living without bamboo”, and contemporary bamboo products have become popular.The connotation and extension of bamboo has been expanding after evolution of more than a thousand years. Living with bamboo has been not only an attitude of life, but also a feeling deeply rooted among the people.

“The luxuriant bamboo forest is swaying and the leaves are rustling.” Let’s walk into the world of bamboo through this exhibition and experience the beautiful artistic conception of Bamboo under the Oriental Aesthetics.At the end of the exhibition,there is another “gentleman” who likes bamboo as his companion and addicts to bamboo as his life.Who will be the “the Envoy of Bamboo”?

Part Four:The Use of Bamboo

竹的用途非常广泛。从生活中的小物件到造纸、家居、家具等，都体现了中华民族特有的竹文化。竹与食也不可分割。竹筒饭和竹酒，都蕴含了新鲜竹子的香气。竹的幼芽---竹笋更被称为“菜中珍品”，有极高的药用和实用价值。

Bamboo can be widely used.Small objects in life,paper making,household and furniture all reflect the unique bamboo culture of the Chinese nation.Bamboo and food are inseparable.Bamboo rice and bamboo wine both contain the fragrance of fresh bamboo.Bamboo shoot,the young bud of bamboo,is renowned as the "Treasures of dishes",which has high medicinal and edible value.

Part Five:The Envoy of Bamboo

大熊猫作为象征中国人民情谊的“友好使者”、“和平使者”，一直深受世界各国人民的欢迎与热爱。它们是促进国际交流、民心相同的使者，在全世界传递着友爱的信号。大熊猫喜食竹，熊猫和竹子成为最有代表性的画面。

Giant pandas,as the "friendship envoys"and"peace envoys"to symbolize the friendship of the Chinese people,have been welcomed and loved by people all over the world.They are the envoys to promote international exchanges as well as connect the hearts and minds of the people,sending the message of friendship around world.Giant pandas like eating bamboos.Thus pandas and bamboo are the most representative images.
