NZBRiC Welcomes Minister Upston to Shanghai
The New Zealand Business Roundtable in China (NZBRiC) and the New Zealand Consulate General in Shanghai recently co-hosted an economic briefing and networking event with the Hon. Louise Upston, Minister for Tourism and Hospitality. We were thrilled to welcome the Minister and her delegation of officials and tourism operators.
This marks Minister Upston’s second visit to Shanghai this year. She joined us just three months after accompanying Prime Minister Christopher Luxon on his official visit to China in July.
Our Executive Director, Nicholas Calder, presented the key findings from the 2025 NZBRiC Business Outlook Report. He highlighted our recommendations to strengthen New Zealand’s business ecosystem in China, emphasising the potential of Te Ao Māori branding and the power of partnerships between New Zealand tourism operators and Chinese travel agencies. This is particularly timely with improved visa access for Chinese tourists via Australia.
A huge thank you to the NZBRiC Board and our members for demonstrating the strength of our business community in Shanghai in their attendance.
We'd also like to extend a special thanks to the New Zealand Consulate in Shanghai for hosting us at their venue. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with the government as we advocate for New Zealand businesses in China.
