如果你已经关注这个公众号有一段时间了,你就会知道在过去半年里我们采访了很多团队成员。本月,我们请到了一位重量级人物——在希尔顿亚太区收益管理整合中心(下称RMCC)工作时间最久的团队成员之一。6年前他曾经是RMCC亚太区的第一位区域收益经理,而现在的他已经成为了收益总监。让我们来听听博凯——这个在中国成家立业并且生活了近十年的法国男人有什么故事要跟我们分享的吧!
If you have followed our WeChat account for a while, you would know that we’ve interviewed several team members in the past 6 months. This month, we thought it would be interesting to interview one of our most senior team members who was the 1st Cluster Revenue Manager to join the center 6 years ago - the director of the RMCC Asia Pacific.
Let’s meet Mikael, French man who got his family, work and life in China and has been here for almost 10 years!
Q1: 你是什么时候来到中国的呢?
09年1月3号。也就是说,我已经在中国这个很棒的国家生活了快十年了。04年夏天我大学刚刚毕业时就离开了英国,之后很快我就对中国产生了兴趣,因为我有个前同事就是中国人。06年我第一次来中国,那会儿上海地铁才只有3、4条线,北京的鸟巢国家体育场也还没建好。07年我又来中国旅游,去西安参观了兵马俑。最终,08年底,我决定在中国定居,当时我花了一个月的时间来了解收益管理在中国是怎样运作的。在中国的头两年我是在广州度过的,之后搬来了上海,并一直生活到现在。

Q1: When did you come to China?
I arrived in China on January 3rd 2009 so it will soon be 10 years that I am living in this fabulous country. I left for the UK right after finishing my university studies in the summer of 2004 and my interest for China started very quickly after that as one of my colleague there was Chinese. I came to the middle kingdom for the first time in 2006, at a time where the Shanghai metro had only 3 or 4 lines and the Beijing Bird Nest was still in construction. I came again as a tourist the year after and that time visited Xi’an and of course the Terracotta Army. Finally, in late 2008, I had decided to come for good so I spent a month in China learning how revenue management was done out here.
I spent my first 2 years in China living in Guangzhou and I then relocated to Shanghai where I have lived since.
Q2: 跟我们分享一下你之前在酒店行业的经历吧!
除了保洁工作之外,我几乎在酒店行业的所有职能部门里都工作过。我学的专业更多的是关于餐饮方面的,因此在我的学生时代所有的实习、培训做的都是服务生或厨师的工作,我甚至曾经在米其林2星级餐厅的厨房工作过。之后,我对酒店更感兴趣,于是就去做了前台。过了一段时间,我的总经理意识到我擅长与数字打交道,于是就把我调去预定部门,在那里我逐渐接触到了收益管理的有关知识,进而走上了这条道路。
Q2: Can you share with us your previous experiences in hospitality industry?
I worked in pretty much all hospitality industry functions apart from housekeeping. My studies were more on the catering side so all my student works and training periods were as waiter or chef. I even worked in the kitchen of a 2* Michelin restaurant. I then was more interested in the hotel side of the industry to move to reception. After a while, my general manager realized I was good with numbers and therefore moved me to reservations where I then made my way to revenue management.

Q3: 你是什么时候加入RMCC的呢?
我是在2012年7月RMCC开业前筹备阶段加入的。这个月我将要庆祝我与RMCC和希尔顿共同走过的第六个年头!一开始我们只有6名团队成员,也没有一个像样的办公室,只能临时在HRCC的办公室里划了一小块作为我们的工作场地。在我与香港港丽酒店第一次召开每日电话会议时,整个区域的高层都在听!这是一个激动人心的时刻,因为从那一刻起,希尔顿亚太区收益管理整合中心的伟大旅程正式开始了!我们一直在研究如何去改善我们的工作环境和改进我们的工作方法,现在很多东西都与当时大不相同(比如更详尽的报告和更好的办公室等)。然而我仍然深信,这个中心之所以能有今天的发展是因为Varun开了个好头。

Q3: When did you join RMCC?
I joined RMCC during pre-opening back in July 2012. This month I’m celebrating my 6 years with RMCC and Hilton! At the very beginning we were only 6 team members and having no proper office, we had a part of the HRCC office to call our own. I did the first ever Daily Detail call for the office with Conrad Hong Kong which had all regional stakeholders listening in! It was an exciting time as we embarked on the great journey that RMCC Asia Pacific has been since then. We have always looked at how we can improve and probably things today are very different than back then (reports, office…) however I remain deeply convinced that the center is strong today because of Varun’s work in setting us up.
Q4: 为什么你选择了RMCC/Hilton?
我是法国人,我曾经在一家法国公司工作了8年。当时的我已经有6年的收益管理工作经验,但是我希望能有同时支持多家酒店收益管理的机会。当时雅高给我的选择有限,所以我就抓住机会加入希尔顿和RMCC。这份工作不仅能使我留在上海生活(我太太是上海人),同时提供了能够与亚太地区酒店合作的机会。
我不太确定我对希尔顿有什么期许,但这里的企业文化真的太不同了。这里非常关注团队成员的发展和身心健康以及对绩效的推动。我认为希尔顿之所以能够在竞争中处于领先地位,肯定或多或少与我们的文化是分不开的。

Q4: Why did you choose RMCC/Hilton?
I am French and I worked for 8 years for a French company. I had already at the time 6 years of revenue management behind me and I wanted to grow beyond supporting just one hotel. It seemed at the time Accor had limited opportunities for me so I jumped at the chance to join Hilton and RMCC. It was the opportunity for me to stay in Shanghai (my wife is Shanghainese) but being able to work with hotels everywhere in Asia Pacific.
I was not too sure what to expect from Hilton but the culture was and is quite significantly different. There is a strong focus on team member development and wellbeing as well as a strong focus on performance. I guess these are some of the reasons why Hilton is ahead of the competition.
Q5: 作为这里的收益总监你感觉如何?能跟我们说说么?
我很荣幸能在RMCC工作。能够带领这么优秀的团队,作为领导者我觉得自己非常幸运。我一方面跟随着之前两位非常出色的收益总监——Varun Raikhy 和Chris Cranford的步伐,另一方面也融入了一些自己的建议跟管理方式。我的基本工作任务是为我的团队制造一个愉悦的工作环境,尽最大可能让酒店对我们的管理感到满意,通过了解酒店制定最合适最正确的服务方案来让酒店变的更好。每一天我都觉得特别的有动力因为每一天都是不一样的。我们有很好的工作环境,活泼的团队,我们不单单是为了工作而工作,而是为了创造一个更美好的生活环境。我为我们的团队和我们团队在这里做的每一件事情感到非常的自豪。

Q5: How are you feeling being the director of the center? And why?
Working at RMCC has been a great adventure for me and I am very fortunate to be leading the center today. I am following on the steps of 2 great directors, Varun Raikhy and Chris Cranford, and I try my best to maintain the legacy while implementing things of my own. My work revolves around 3 main things: creating the best environment for our team members to thrive and find happiness, adapting our services to our hotels so their satisfaction is high, and finally implement the right processes and actions so the performance of our hotels is better than ever.
Everyday I feel motivated mainly because no day is like another. We have a great environment, wonderful team members whom make it more alive than ever, and we give life to our purpose as we are here not only for our hotels but also to give back to our community. I feel very proud of everything we do and achieve at RMCC Asia Pacific.

Q6: 可以说这些年你真是的跟这个团队共同成长起来的,也见证了RMCC的发展。在这个过程中,有什么有趣或者让你印象深刻的事情可以跟我们分享的么?
我们的团队正在以越来越快的速度扩张,我觉得这一点是十分惊人的。2017年是我们表现最出色的一年,一共有35家新酒店加入了RMCC。虽然2018年还没有结束,但是目前为止新加入的酒店的总数已经超过2017年。我们希望年底前这个数字能够达到50。拥有更多酒店也意味着我们必须要加快招聘的速度,并且欢迎新成员的到来。RMCC的人员流动率一直都很低,这很好地反映了我们在团队文化上投入的收效,也说明无论是在RMCC还是在希尔顿内部我们都创造了足够的工作机会。和四五年前相比,现在的RMCC在各方面的工作效率都得到了提高,这真是一件振奋人心的事情。拥有今天这样大规模的团队也使得我们除了收益管理之外能够扩展一些其他事务,比如在社交网络、新媒体等领域投入更多资源去宣传RMCC,让更多人知道我们。

Q6: You’ve literally growing with the center and witnessed its development. Is there anything interesting or impressive you want to share with us during the progress?
I think it’s very impressive how we keep expanding and our pace keeps getting faster. 2017 was our best year yet with 35 new hotels supported by our center but we’re already ahead so far in 2018 and the expectations is to board 50 hotels this year. This means we had also to step up our recruiting and are welcoming more team members than ever. The fact that our turnover is at an all-time low is also a good reflection of how much we have invested in our culture and creating enough career opportunities, within or outside the center. I think what is different today from 4-5 years ago is the speed at which everything is done and this is exciting. Having today a large scale also enables us to explore other areas like having dedicated resources towards our communication.

Q7: 你对RMCC今后的愿景是什么?你觉得下一个10年这里会变成什么样?
这个问题很好,但的确很难回答。总的看来,整个亚太地区,尤其是中国的市场是非常有活力的,而且这个市场的变化真的太快了。我们是否能在这个市场取得的成功将要取决于我们适应市场的能力,取决于我们是否能够跟得上这种变化。我坚信,如果两者我们都做到了,收益管理在未来一定会朝着集中和整合的方向发展。 收益管理被发明出来之后,这几十年里航空公司已经向我们展示了这条路该怎么走。 我认为长远来看,我们将采用与美国收益管理中心同时管理超过2100家酒店类似的方法。 我们将会支持亚太地区大多数希尔顿旗下的酒店的收益管理,并且会达到一个更大的规模。这将确保我们高效,有影响力,并且领先于竞争对手。

Q7: What’s your vision about RMCC Asia Pacific in the next 10 years?
This is a great question… but also a very difficult one. Asia Pacific in general and China in particular are very dynamic markets which are rapidly changing and our success will depend on our ability to adapt and continue to be relevant. I truly believe, for having done both, that the future of revenue management is to have a centralized and consolidated approach. Airlines have already showed us the way after inventing revenue management decades ago. I think long term we will have a similar approach to our colleague at RMCC Americas where they manage more than 2100 hotels. We will support most of Hilton hotels in Asia Pacific and we will reach great scale. This will make sure we are efficient, impactful and ever better than competition.
Q8: 听说你现在正在利用空闲时间学习打鼓,给我们来一段呗!
没问题。今年我制定了3个目标:读20本书,用更多的时间陪伴家人还有学习打鼓。 到目前为止我已经读了12本书了。 我把周末比如体育运动之类的活动转到了周中,周末的大部分时间我都用来陪我太太和小孩。

就像你说的,我报名去学习了打鼓,我现在已经拥有一台属于自己的电子鼓啦! 这真的是我很想做的,但直到去年年底我才真正有勇气去做这件事情,我把这种信念带到了打鼓的世界。 虽然我现在打得还不是很好,但重要的是它给我带来了幸福,并且这也确实让我心情愉悦。
Q8: I know that you’re participating drum lessons in your spare time. Show me what you’ve progressed so far~
No problem. I gave myself 3 objectives for this year: read 20 books, spend more time with my family and learn drumming.
I have read 12 books so far this year. I shifted weekend activities such as sports to midweek to have most of the weekend with my wife and son. Finally I did sign up for drumming lessons and I am now the proud owner of an electric drum. This is something I really wanted to do for a long time but never really got the courage to do until end of last year where I just took that leap of faith into the drumming world. I know I’m not very good yet but what’s important is my own happiness and this does make me happy.
