希尔顿亚太区收益管理整合中心(下称RMCC)自成立以来,除了团队本身不断发展壮大之外,我们中心使用的商务智能工具和报表也经历了多次迭代,工作效率与成立之初相比有着质的飞跃。而在这背后,则离不开我们商务智能团队同事们的努力和付出,而Bill则是整个团队的中坚力量。从酒店的管培生到商务智能“大佬”,从收益分析团队的一员变成团队领导,一路走来,一定有很多感悟能与大家分享。 那么,让我们一起听听他本人怎么说吧~
Since the establishment of RMCC, not only the team has been expanding, but also the Business Intelligence tools and reports. The pace of iteration and development of these have led to exponential progress in improving working efficiency for the entire center.
None of these would have been possible without the invaluable contributions from our Business Intelligence team, of which, Bill is a key member. Going from Management Trainee to the “Boss of BI”, from a member of the Revenue Analysis team to the leader of this very team, this presents a very interesting story of growth and success that we will explore below.
大家好,我是Bill。我本科就读于北京的对外经济贸易大学,研究生就读于美国的康奈尔大学。13年毕业后,我以管培生的身份加入了上海希尔顿酒店(现静安昆仑大酒店),在为期半年的轮岗后,我定岗于预订部,成为了一名收益分析员。15年我通过内部转岗的机会加入了RMCC,16年晋升为高级收益分析员,17年开始担任收益分析经理的职位。目前我的主要职责是RMCC数据报表的生产及维护,商务智能产品开发,以及对10位收益分析员的支持和管理。
Hello, my name is Bill and I studied at the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE) in Beijing for my undergraduate degree, having finally graduated from Cornell University with my master’s degree. After my graduation in 2013, I joined Hilton Shanghai (the current Kunlun Jing An) as a Management Trainee. After 6-month’s rotation, I became a Revenue Analyst in the Reservation Team. I then joined RMCC in 2015 through an internal transfer. From there I got promoted to Senior Revenue Analyst in 2016 and became Manager Revenue Analysis in 2017. Currently my main responsibilities include the production of reports, database maintenance, developing Business Intelligence products along with supporting and managing a team of 10 Revenue Analysts.
在酒店完成了前半年的轮岗之后,我如愿定岗到了预订部并开始参与收益管理的工作,每天都和负责这家酒店的区域收益经理进行沟通和合作。当时就对RMCC提供的各种数据,以及收益经理制定的策略产生了浓厚的兴趣。随着对RMCC的不断了解,我越发肯定这个集中了许多收益管理人才的地方会有很多的学习发展机会,于是我决定加入RMCC。
对我来说两者最大的区别在于运营模式。RMCC是通过资源、人才的集中和整合,大大提高了收益管理工作的效率和专业性。在RMCC,大部分需要使用到的分析报表都是标准化、自动化的,所以收益经理可以把更多的时间放在数据分析以及策略制定上。如果你在工作中碰到了一些挑战,可以从管理类似酒店的同事那边获得参考。RMCC也经常会提供收益管理的专业培训,持续提高大家的技能水平。这些都是在酒店做一位收益管理经理很难享受到的福利。
After completing my rotations at the property, I joined the Reservations team and participated in the Revenue Management process. I communicated and cooperated with the Cluster Revenue Manager of the hotel on a daily basis. It was at that stage that I developed an interest in the data provided by RMCC as well as the strategies made by the Revenue Manager. As I grew to learn more about RMCC, I found that it was a place that presented many learning and development opportunities as it was a gathering of Revenue Management talents from all across the region. This is what led to my desire to eventually join RMCC.
As I saw it, RMCC was able to leverage its larger pool of resources, of which included a mass of talent, to greatly improve the efficiency and quality of Revenue Management provided to the end user, the hotels. At RMCC, most of the analytical reports that need to be done are standardized and automated. Therefore, the Revenue Managers can spend more time on data analysis and strategizing. Often when one Revenue Manager encounters an issue or has an idea, they can gain valuable feedback from their colleagues in the same office who may have had previous experience with these. RMCC also provides professional training in Revenue Management to continuously help improve your skills. The silo effect of working in single properties rarely allows Revenue Managers to have such benefits.
我觉得我对“努力工作”这个词有了更深层的理解。其实一直以来都有听到“死读书、读死书”的说法,只是在RMCC的经历让我更深刻的体会了这一点。比如你需要重复粘贴1000份格式类似、内容不同的数据,我加班加点手动一个个去做的话,的确能算很努力吧,然而效果却远远比不上我在百度搜索几行编程代码并应用下来,几分钟就搞定了。在平时的工作中,脚踏实地固然非常重要,然而面对一些新出现的或者特别大的困难时,需要的往往是跳出框架的思维和创新的方案。
My understanding of the term “hardworking” has evolved very much throughout this journey. The term has evolved from meaning “working hard” to now meaning “working smart”. For example, let’s say if I got one task that requires repeatedly copy and pasting 1,000 pieces of data with similar format but different content. If I work overtime and do it manually, I am definitely “working hard”, but it would be much more efficient to look online for some lines of code which can replicate the process with minimal manual effort, thus “working smart”. It is important to be humble in your daily work as some problems may not have such efficient solutions, however, it is also necessary to think outside of the box and provide innovative solutions while facing new challenges or difficulties. This is the only way to grow and get better, and how we are able to create new products and processes to optimize RMCC’s daily workflows.
在我做决定之前,我的确思考了很久,并且和许多朋友、长辈有过交流。简单说来主要有两个原因吧:
首先是自己在尝试过编程、数据整合的过程中发现的确对此有浓厚的兴趣,尤其是攻关掉一个技术难题后的成就感简直爆棚;然后就是众所周知的大数据时代趋势,各行各业都在寻求数据化转型,酒店行业也不例外,希尔顿和其他各大酒店集团在近年来都陆续开发了多个数据化项目,所以我相信商务智能在这个行业里的发展前景非常不错。
Before I made this choice, I put a lot of thought into it, and discussed it with many friends and elders. In the end there were two reasons I chose to go this way:
First, I found that I have a strong interest in programming and data integration after I tried it. The sense of achievement that is felt after solving a complex technical issue is euphoric.
Second, as many industries, including Hospitality, are faced with the prospects of “Big Data”we are all looking for ways to gain more and better insights from data. Hilton and other major hotel groups have developed several data-based projects in the past few years. Thus, I believe that there will be a promising future for Business Intelligence in the Hospitality industry.
其实不用提未来,现在我们正在应用的商务智能技术就已经给中心带来了许多积极的影响,主要可以归结为三个方面:
效率的提升:现在我们的核心报表已经实现了全自动化,大大节省了人工成本
为经营决策提供多样化的数据支持:我们的区域收益经理们能够针对酒店的具体情况做出有效的决策,这一点离不开我们每天提供的大量数据和分析报表
打造RMCC的竞争优势:作为一个整合中心,我们有一个专业的商务智能团队负责技术支持和产品研发。相比于酒店的收益管理团队,或者其他酒店管理集团的整合中心,无论从数据资源还是技术级别来说,我们都有很强的竞争优势。
Not just in the future, in fact, the Business Intelligence technology that is currently applied today has already brought many positive impacts to the center that can be seen through three main aspects:
Efficiency: now that our core reports are fully automated, we save on labor costs and efforts which otherwise would be much larger.
Providing diverse data to support decision making: our Cluster Revenue Managers can be better supported in making effective decisions thanks to the big data, and reports derived from the same, that we provide on a daily basis.
Create a competitive advantage for RMCC: as a consolidated center, we have a dedicated Business Intelligence team that is in charge of technical support and product development. Compared to the individual Revenue Management teams at hotel level or other hotel groups’ integration centers, we have a strong competitive advantage in terms of data resources and technology.

In my spare time, I enjoy playing Football and Ping Pong. I also enjoy Chinese ancient poetry and Chinese style music. Of course, as most people in the Hospitality industry do, I also like to travel.
